This is probably my favorite quote now from Tropic Thunder:
Cody:"That's a pretty cool sidearm you got there. What is it?"
Four Leaf Tayback:"I don't know what it's called. I just know the sound it makes, when it takes a man's life."
I'm gonna go against the grain here and say Sig P220. I held one a few years ago and wasn't crazy about it, and then I got to shoot one over the past few months and decided that when I get my CCW .45 it's gonna be a 220. They come in SA/DA, SAO, and DAK(DAO) so you can pick whatever trigger...
The military and SWAT types use the standard FSB because that is how the rifles they are issued are set up. My issued M4 has that FSB and I'm not crazy about it, I would rather not have that protruding into my sight picture. But, in the end it is all user preference.
The military AN/PEQ-2 version does not have a visible laser on it, however if you are talking about civilian variants, they can include visible laser options. You can read a little bit about it here:

I don't know how they would hold up for normal use...
For some reason whenever I use Blazer in my XD the case always ejects straight back towards my head. Any other ammo I've used though ejects normally to the side, I guess it's just my gun.
Not sure where everyone else is finding this ammo so cheap but last time I bought some in the Springs...
To each his own but, do you really think you'll need a 30 round mag in your HD gun? If you do think you'll need that much you could always keep an extra mag next to your pistol. As for the gun, I love my XD9 it's been really reliable and very accurate.
Here's a link to "The Bullet Test Tube" it's specifically made for measuring penetration and wound cavity size.

First, I want to thank you all for your help. I'm probably going to go with the FV simply because it has the scope bases and I'm not too worried about iron sights. And According to the website the heavy barrel only weighs an extra pound. I don't think it will make that much of a difference...
I'm looking at two Mark II rifles from Savage

It seems like the only difference between them is that one has a heavy barrel and the other does not. Is this going to make a difference when firing a round as...
I knew the XCR operated differently but I didn't realize it wouldn't affect it at all.
Granted while firing the cover will be open anyway, it's been drilled into me that once you're done firing to close the cover to prevent the sand and other particles getting in there.
Has anyone had an issue with the fact that there is no ejection port cover? (i.e. dirt and grime?) I'm almost dead set on this rifle at this point ... my biggest dilemma is trying to decide which caliber.
