    6.8 or 6.5 Ar upper?

I have nothing against the 6.5... never have. The two calibers are a LOT more similar than most 6.5 fans are willing to admit. I offered up links to real world use of the 6.8 to affirm the 6.8's capabilities. It's good to hear that your use of the two has confirmed that to you. Your...

    6.8 or 6.5 Ar upper?

Don't let those 6.5 Grumble boyz try to tell ya that the 6.8 doesn't measure up. Here's some links of real world "gettin' it done" by the 6.8. The 6.8 Rocks da house. http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=6779112#post6779112

New Caliber - 300 AAC Blackout

LOL Ya know what I've began to notice? More and more... comparisons are made with the 6.8 being the standard... and it's the grendel that ends up with the "me too" mentioning. Folks who are honest with themselves admit that the two are closer to one another than the grendel lovers will...

New Caliber - 300 AAC Blackout

Just as I wrote it. I can legally buy a Tax Stamp to purchase/own a silencer, but if I USE it within the borders of WA State, it IS a jailable offense (no exclusion for law enforcement either). The only option is to transport it to neighboring Oregon or Idaho to use it.

New Caliber - 300 AAC Blackout

That response sounds pretty arrogant to me. Just because you/yours (and/or those you hang with) can't make it work, that doesn't make your observations the final word.

New Caliber - 300 AAC Blackout

You can have it.... About the only advantage I see is that it has the capability of some subsonic loads. That's fine if you're a silencer user. In my state, it's legal to own one, but you go to jail for using one. So, for me, this round has no use. I have my .223 for cheap shooting...

    Where are Marlins made?

Marlins are now under the same corporate umbrella as Remington is. Their gun making efforts are gearing up in NY State now. A gun already owned is most likely one of the ones from their old plant/locale.

    Is the 6.8 dead?

LOL Yeah... his son was just as bad with his first ever buck. Shot and the deer launched straight up, came down on all fours and started bucking and thrashing. He dropped it with the second shot... and, later, discovered that round number one blew his nut sack clean off. "Like father, like...

    Is the 6.8 dead?

LOL Glad to hear I'm not alone in this little phase... for a minute ya sounded like some "know-it-all 20yr old". Nice to know you're a "learned a few things over the years" type instead. Haven't taken an elk yet, but, took a couple of moose in my years in Alaska. 220gr of soft point out...

    Is the 6.8 dead?

That was (as I said earlier) a brand new rifle's first trip to the range. Bipod with a loose mount (have replaced the mount with a new one) "Red" Dot reflex sight (no magnification), aimed at an orange dot, through polarized glasses. And, "shoot one, clean... shoot one, clean". That...

    Is the 6.8 dead?

Mine's alive and kickin'. Infact... just loaded up some Barnes 85gr TSX last night for it. Depending upon my mood, either my 6.8, or my .30-30 are going to be my two Bambi guns for here in western WA State. Maiden voyage to the range, not even broken in yet... and no magnification for...

Lets Hear From all the 6.8 Shooters!

I did my homework for quite a while before purchasing an upper in 6.8 SPC II (6.8 x 43mm). One would be well served to pass on a SAAMI spec'd offering (although it can be reamed to SPC II). The 6.8 SPC II chamber has a longer leade and lowers chamber pressure, ensuring a safer shooting gun (a...

    308 vs 30-06

.30-06 would be my choice, and IS, for that matter. I would also stick with the model 700. I've taken everything from deer and small sheep to moose with the .30-06. Very versatile caliber. I'd like a .308 too (just 'cause), but it's a secondary choice.

close range coyotes with a .22mag revovler?

Sometimes it just a matter of being still. A year and a half ago (while deer hunting during muzzle loading season) I watched a 'yote trot on in towards me. At about 20yds., he got that "OH CHIT" look about him when he finally got my scent, turned and burned outta there. I thought about...
