Are these a good idea to use on a factory rifle? If so, which or both?
A benchrest guy recommended them to me. My primary goal is to reduce the gun's propensity to copper fouling and *maybe* gain a bit of accuracy as a bonus.
My rifle (TC Icon) is plenty accurate, hovering around MOA...
I own Caldwell front- and rear shooting bags now for 100 yards bench shooting.
Will a good front rest like a Caldwell Rock, Sinclair or Hart be a worthwhile improvement over bags as far as precision, repeatability, etc. ?
I shoot well over bags now but I've been pondering this for a while...
The way I always consider magnums vs. standard calibers is this: the 300 Win. Mag buys you 50-60 more yards of maximum point blank range for a given bullet weight versus the .308. The question therefore is whether this is worth the additional recoil and ammo expense.
Plus, don't forget that...

Is this normal from one 3-shot group to the next? I'm referring to the 3 groups at the bottom that I highlighted. These 3 are all the same load (Winchester Super-X 100 grain) at 100 yards off a benchrest with a TC Icon .243.
The point of impact seems to be shifting slightly each time...
If you want guaranteed MOA accuracy then it's either a TC Icon, Tikka, Sako or Weatherby sub-MOA.
Savage also has a very good general reputation for accuracy (though without any sort of guarantee), then I'd rank Remington and Browning next. After that IMO it's a crap shoot.
I just bought...
I spoke with an engineer from T/C, some custom accuracy outfits and a fellow T/C Icon owner. Apparently this situation is normal out of the box and it will loosen up over time.
I just ordered my first nylon bore brush. I have two questions:
1) Should I clean it after each use? I only plan on brushing one way (chamber to crown) and unscrewing it after each time it exits the crown
2) How often should it be replaced, if ever? Being nylon, I assume it'll last quite a...
Is one significantly better than the other for lubricating a barrel after cleaning?
Or am I simply splitting hairs?
Kroil is apparently great stuff but I can't get it local. I'd pay $20 including shipping from Midway to get a small bottle. Hoppe's and Rem oil are of course readily...

Assume the .260 is equivalent to the 6.5 Swede. It basically is, factory loaded. Also, there's a lot more factory ammo available for the .260 than the old Roberts.

I bought a TC Icon .243 recently (my first gun purchase in a decade). I got it out to the range yesterday and today and put 4 different deer-specific factory loads through it.
While the overall accuracy is very impressive, I have noticed that it doesn't feed super smooth -- the bolt is hard...
Has anyone used either of these bullets on big game (deer in particular)? Or the standard Lapua soft point for that matter.
What did you think?
I'm tempted to order up some Norma and Lapua .243 ammunition to try out but, given the high cost, I need assurances on real world hunting...
I had a scope mounted yesterday. This is the first rifle I've bought in over a decade, a T/C Icon .243 and a Leupold VXII 3x9x40 with Leupold PRW medium height rings. These are steel, permanent Weaver-type rings.
They didn't have low PRW rings in stock. I want to remount with low rings...
In mounting a scope on my rifle today, the gunsmith recommended the scope be canted such that the crosshairs are level / perpendicular for me when I'm shooting offhand to account for my natural cant. I let him do it but I wonder now. I've never heard of this before. Good idea? Bad idea?
How much difference is it between mounting a scope with low rings rather than medium rings?
And should the screws be loctited down?
I just bought a TC Icon and mounted a Leupold VXII 3x9 on it. They only had medium height rings and it appears I could have used the low height rings. The...
Does anyone own a Remington Model 7? What is your opinion on it's accuracy and so forth? Especially in relation to a Browning X-Bolt, for example. I've been away from guns and hunting for about 10 years and I don't know where Remington stacks up these days. I used to be mainly a Remington guy...
Does anyone own an Icon in .243? How is it with 95-100 grain bullets? Or do you know the rate of twist?
A web search suggested that the rate of twist is 1/12, which is odd but feasible, I guess.
I don't want to buy this rifle unless I'm certain that the twist rate is good for 95-100...
