If you were buying a ccw that you knew would get soaked over and over, what would you buy? What would be small enough to carry, made of materials that would hold up to being wet often and be easy to break down to clean and dry?
But rifled slugs are meant for smooth bores not rifled barrels. I might be interested in one of these. Wish they had more info on the website. No weight specs etc.
I will be watching to see what suggestions you get as well. I have the same gun and have been considering optics. I would like to use it on tree rats this fall but open sights and my eyes may not be up to the task.
I have been looking at marlin lever guns in .35 remington. I like the looks of the XLR (stainless and laminated) but the C looks handier. XLR comes with a 24" barrel and the C is 20". Is the ballistic advantage of the longer barrel worth having a more cumbersome rifle?
Thanks for all the input. The Marlin 981ts seems to fit the bill the best. Now to see if I can find one in a local shop. I try to buy local and I dont like the idea of buying a rifle that I have not handled.
I guess I should clarify, I am not selling the old 10/22. It is staying in the family, just not in my closet. Thanks for all the suggestions, but unfortunately the numerous options doesnt help me narrow it down much! Lots to consider.
I am looking to pass along the compact 10/22 that I have had since I was 13 and purchase a new squirrel gun. The available options are overwhelming and I would appreciate some suggestions. Here are some guidelines:
Less than $500
Prefer a stainless barrel and synthetic stock
Not a heavy...
I would be interested in this comparison as well. I have been looking at something to pocket carry and have been considering the P32, P3at, and now the TCP.
I have been very interested in the papoose for backpacking. Squirrels are to small and fast for me to expect to take them with a pistol. No one around here carries them and I hate ordering guns that I have never put my hands on. Got burned that way with the "springfield survival 22/410". Way...
I guess I maybe should have maybe listed the 317 and the NAA mini master as my leading candidates. I expected I would get a lot of "that is not enough gun" responses, but I am not expecting to get into any gun fights and I dont expect I will run into any brown bears. I would like to have a gun...
What I mostly meant with the 4 legged comment was that I don't live in
Brown bear country. We have some black bears and other critters that can make
You nervous but generally run at the sight of a human or the sound of a shot. Up until now
All of my long hikes have been unarmed. I have...
I do a lot of backpacking and I am considering adding a revolver to my gear. There are not any
4 legged predators to worry about much where I live so I am talking about a small caliber.
I am thinking 22lr or 22mag. Weight and bulk are major considerations but I want something I

I am looking at buying my first single action and I have settled on a stainless single six, but I cant decide between the 5.5 and 6.5 models. Is there any appreciable difference? How much difference can one inch make (insert your own joke) in accuracy or velocity?
I dont have a camo gun and dont feel that it has ever been spotted. Movement is the biggest issue. A 3 inch 12 gauge is plenty. Almost every turkey I have ever killed has been with a 20 gauge. You just have to be patient and not take unnecessarily long shots.
Call quietly so that you give...
