    Hopkins & Allen Underhammer

@BHP Fan: Wow. I thought BlueGrouse was dead & gone. @1776: Is your underhammer an H&A action? Got photos? @ Goon: Been known to do it the old-fashioned way, but guess I got lazy with the hook breach :-)

    Walmart Ammo

Typically, from a discussion on this subject in a northeast-area gun board, it's not the anti-gun crowd causing big-box stores to pull out of the gun business. It is the lack of qualified/capable staff able to properly fill out the FFL portion of a 4473, and the resulting fines to the store...

Here are a few: A historically correct minie from Lyman is available from Bull Shop Moyer's Cast Bullets also has the Lyman minie. Track of the Wolf has minies too. See also The Gun Works Dixie Gunworks has both .575 and .577 cast minies available. There are others. And you could try...

conflict btwn bullet mfr & powder manual guidance

That's what I found at the range today, too. optimum accuracy was in the lower end of the jacketed data. Funny; even the least-accurate batch of the re-loads were more accurate than my control; 7 rds of factory speer jhps.

conflict btwn bullet mfr & powder manual guidance

noylj; I think I'm as concerned over too low (see wrangler5's first post in this thread) as too hot. ReloaderFred; Another area where I had trouble was Trail Boss loads with Berry's pro-jos. At first, all I could find for published loads were for lead-only, But then I learned Hodgdon's...

conflict btwn bullet mfr & powder manual guidance

Thanks, all. I did start at the top end of the lead data, and worked my way up to middle-of-the-road plated. Hopefully, I can get to the range tomorrow AM & validate :-)

conflict btwn bullet mfr & powder manual guidance

I've been reloading using Hodgdon powders and Berry's bullets for a few years now; for .32 H&R Magnum, .44 Magnum, and .45-70 gvt. But as I started this week to research a 9x19 load using Hodgdon powder for the 124 gr plated round nose bullet from Berry's, I noticed the following; Berry's...

Moving to Massachusetts from Tennessee with revolver -- any advice?

Zoom-Zoom beat me to it; but Northeast shooters is a great group; and very helpful!

    RSBH question - KXR-3 frame?

Thank you, CraigC; I did get the Pachy grips for a regular BH, and they fit the SBH very well (except for some minor rubber "mold flashing" at the edges). The new pachy grip fills my hand better than the factory, and these aren't the screw & metal-loop types; which makes it easier to switch...

    RSBH question - KXR-3 frame?

Should add: the Ruger webpage for serial number ranges says this pistol was made in 2000.

    RSBH question - KXR-3 frame?

My Ruger Super Blackhawk s.s. with 4-5/8" barrel is frame-marked (K)XR-3. The frame appears to be shorter than the tracing for an XR-3 frame, but is not set up for the locking mainspring as cited here. Does anyone have experience with this pistol configuration? If so, have you had success...

Do you carry an "under-rated" concealed handgun?

Typically one of the three: Firestar M43 (9x19), Hi Std 2-shot 22WRM, or NAA 22 Mag revolver. Occasionally I've borrowed the daughter's 431PD; in this case, the cartridge is a bit under-rated, not the pistol. Past CCW have included a Star PD, an AMT .45 Backup, Vz 82, and an AMT Automag II

    Illinois gubernatorial candidates on guns

Same here. Left Chicago in '68; left DuPage & the State in '73. Tried again with Peoria in '93. Didn't last long. Now IL is exporting more of their politicians to the national stage. Damn. Seattle isn't far enough away.

    Ed's Red question

Ed's Red did leave permanent fingerprint marks on the original high-gloss plastic grips on a Czech Vz82. But generally the worst damage from Ed's Red was to my skin if I got ahead of myself & didn't use gloves. Oh. Old Ed's Red makes a great accelerant.

    Remington 750

KTP used guns listing has 9 used 7400's or 4's in 30-06 for prices ranging from $350 to $725 (w/ Leupold scope). I've done a number of gun buys & sales through them. They are extremely reliable. Funny, I'm in Everett WA now, and I'll be at KTP in two weeks. Go figure.

Ammo Shortage merged threads, aka UberUltraMasterAmmoThreadOfPower

Acera: Thanks for the ammoengine link! Today, the Monroe WA WAC gun show had plenty of ammo, cf & rimfire, and a few boxes of primers, so supply IS getting better. There were 10 or so boxes of 9mm Kurtz (a.k.a. .380ACP) from Fiochhi at one dealer table.

One thing I'm glad for is the cute Vz82 I bought a while back in 9x18; russian steel-cased ammo hasn't dried up at all

Ammo Shortage merged threads, aka UberUltraMasterAmmoThreadOfPower

Not as much as it was. Just looked in the stash; my pre-11/08 Magtech 240gr JSP 44Mag was $24/box. In June, I paid $48 for a box of American Eagle .44Mag when I inadvertantly left some of my ammo behind on a trip to the range. This weekend at the Monroe Gunshow, I paid $29/bx for the same...

Ammo Shortage merged threads, aka UberUltraMasterAmmoThreadOfPower

What do people shoot most? That's what disappeared first. While I was in NM, .40S&W seemed to be the only fodder not commercially common enough to dry up. But by the time I moved to WA, the common stuff (9x19, 45, 38 & 357) was making a strong return to the shelves at the WAC gunshows. It's...
