It's going to be a fun week

I have just arrived in New Hampshire to work at Ruger this week. I got a nice tour of the place and saw some interesting things today. Manufacturing processes are interesting to me, and when it's firearms, doubly so. I get the next 3 days with them, then it's on to somewhere else. No...

    10/22 recoil rod question

Does the stock recoil rod in a 10/22 have any way to retain the handle, bead and spring? When I remove mine, the handle comes right off the rod, followed by the bead, and then the spring fully decompresses. Is that correct or should there be some retention mechanism, perhaps a flattened end on...

Will this work for loading .223?

I've been loading pistol rounds for about 10 years, but never rifle. Forum searches turn up very different opinions on the differences between loading rifle vs. pistol. I'm using a Dillon 550 for pistol, and would like to use it for .223. My brass is deprimed before cleaning, so the pockets...

    Unintentional safe queen

I had a great morning Saturday. Went to the gun show in Raleigh, and scored a Kimber Team Match II. My first Kimber:) I got it home, cleaned the shippin' oil off of it, put the shootin' oil on it and went to the shed to load up a few hundred .45s for a trip to the range on Sunday. Got...

I drew good duty this week

What luck! I must've drawn the long straw. I've got duty at Smith & Wesson in Houlton, ME this week. Started today, and will finish up Thursday. It's a pretty interesting plant. I knew they made the Walthers here, and handcuffs, but they have just recently moved the 1911 operation to...

How do you clean a CTC laser?

Hmm. Don't know if anyone can help or not. I've got several handguns with Crimson Trace laser grips. After a few thousand rounds, oil has found its way onto the laser. I can easily clean it with a little alcohol on those cleaning sticks they send with it, but as soon as I fire one time, the...

From the Dept. of "you gotta be kiddin me"

I'm visiting my Brother in MD this week, and thought I better review their laws, since I'm taking some hardware with me for a range trip. In Title 4 section 202, I found the following, and could hardly believe it's actually in print. It wasn't too bad until I got to number 5...

Can I hand carry to an FFL in another state?

I live in NC, and want to give a handgun to my brother in MD. He has several already that he bought in his home state of MD over the last 15 or so years. He asked a local FFL how to do the transfer, and the FFL told him I should ship him the pistol, and he'd do the transfer, and hold it the...

    Ammo needed in Dallas

Hi guys. I'm a road warrior for a communications company, and spend 2 or 3 weeks a month on the road. I've never taken any guns on a trip until this week. I brought two pistols with me to the Dallas area because I want to take a co-worker and his son to the range on Sunday. I brought enough...

    Trip to Bud's

Well, here I am in Cincinnati on a 2 week business trip. Only about 80 miles from Lexington. Since I have the weekend off, I thought I'd visit Bud's Gun Shop, but their web site says they're closed on weekends. Dad gummit! Guess I'll finish up for the week about noon tomorrow (Friday) and...

    Interesting plane trip this weekend

Hi guys. Greetings from Irkutsk (In Siberia), Russia. I left home on the morning of the 4th, and arrived a few hours ago (morning of the 6th). I'm here until the 19th. The flight from Atlanta to Moscow was uneventful, but early in the 6 hour flight from Moscow to Irkutsk, I pulled out a copy...

    TDI report. Handgun III

Mother Nature just couldn't hold out for one more day, could she? Day 1 was sunny, clear, and about 72 degrees. Day 2 was sunny, clear, and about 75 degrees. Today, the rain started during breakfast and is still coming down, at 8:00pm. It never completely stopped all day, and was pretty...

    TDI report. Handgun II

Well, the second day was a long one. It started with the Manager and a crowd of people in the hotel parking lot waiting on the Police. 7 vehicles got broken into overnight. Turned out about 5 of them belonged to TDI students. A couple laptops were stolen, but I never found out whether or not...

    TDI report. Handgun I

Welp, day one is over. What a day. It was about 73 degrees and sunny. There were 29 students. 7 of them female. There were also 9 instructors. Today included about 4 hours in the classroom, and the rest of the time on the range. Classroom instruction included a few words about their...

Too excited for my own good

Jeezy peezy. My company's not getting much out of me today. Work-wize, anyhow. I'm just too excited to work today. I'm leaving NC tomorrow morning for 3 days of fun and sun at TDI Ohio this weekend. It'll be my first trip there, and also my first formal training since the 1 day CCW...

    How are your CTs zeroed?

Does everyone zero their CT laser grips for a particular distance, or does anyone have them parallel to the barrel to make them more predictable over varying distances?

    Remington handgun primers

Hi all. I have just learned that I have been using the wrong primers for .40S&W. Whoops. I've been using Ramington 1 1/2, and see now that I should be using 5 1/2. Does anyone know if there is a pressure difference between the two, or if it's strictly a cup thickness issue? There's no info...

Hoppes 9 ok for cleaning brass?

Hey guys, is it ok to put a little Hoppes 9 in the walnut when tumbling brass, or does that fall into the Brasso category of no-no's. I can't smell any ammonia in it, but I'm not sure. Anybody know?
