These marking appear on some early WWII Colt's and S&W revolvers. I have observed them both .38 S&W and .38 S&W Special marked barrels.
I have recently read that their presence on the Specials indicates conversion to .38/200.
Anyone have a firm handle on the subject?
Thanks,
Waidmann
On a lark I purchased an OP in .38-200. The problem is when attempting Double Action (and for that matter SA as well) pull, four times out of six I would describe as reasonable, the fifth as somewhat difficult and the sixth as darn near impossible. There appears to be a dragline on the...
I acquired a 10-5 SB 3" and have fallen in love with this as a CCW. I have an idle 65 and see 3" 65 barrels new for around $150.
Posed this question to my local smith (a barrel swap) and he passed. Too much risk.
If I can decipher SCSW, my chances of finding a SB 3" 65 are about slim and...
Two facts are a given. The British Service Revovers K-200 commercial grade ran from in the 600K serial range upward. The Victory Model variant, U.S. marked, wartime finish etc. began somewhere short of the millionth/V-1 serial.
Wondering where the transition fell, serial wise? Anyone have...
I've muzzleloaded and reloaded smokeless but never loaded catridges with BP. My initial interests will be .45 ACP for use in an altered Mark I Webley and a 9.3mm Sauer and Sohn, a variant of 9.3 X 72R
Cast bullets of course, FF or FFF as appropriate.
Standard primers? Magnums?
All...
1. When did the 4 line inscription first appear on S&W revolvers?
2. What explanation would there be for seeing two S&W .455's offered on-line, one a triple-lock, bearing the 4 line marking?
I know one of you docents of S&W Lore will elevate me out of this ignorance.
Thanks,
Waidmann
This one that has always caught my eye if for no other reason than the bizarre trigger guard and of course its German. Well one turned up at about half the typical freight and I bit. It is of interest to me that it bears no proof marks, is inscribed Germany (no West) and is marked 9 Kurz, .38...
Some of you guys who up to speed on Auto-5's take a detour over to Research and look at the posting above. I have never seen one marked as this.
The query isn't gaining any traction. Its an oddball worth a look-see.
Anyone care to suggest a bullet and charge based on your experience.
I will be shooting a S&W .455 No.2
The goal is simply to obtain a repectable group using the existing sights
Yesterday Auction Arms item #10159264, a very nice .38 Special Victory Model, serial number V174045 sold for $763.29.
Someone out there has to be shaking their head as well.
Anyone familiar with this maker? I am assuming it is Dutch. It is on a single shot muzzleloading pistol's lock. GUM is also stamped on the barrel and wood. There are proofs but not any I find in standard references. There is a VR cipher but it is stipled not stamped, looks questionable...
New to this forum; limited reloading experience. I am about to begin reloading for .32 WCF. I have a double cavity Lyman mould. I would also like to try some semi-jackets.
I have several revolvers but also a Husqvarna single shot to feed.
I have been buying some of the cowboy fodder but...
Trying to develop some info on this piece. I believe it was marketed in Europe during the period the BDM was offered here. The Mags are similar to the BDM's and I have altered a BDM mag to fit. The gun bears similarities to a Hi Power but I doubt many parts will interchange.
Any help out...
Picked up this piece which was sold in Europe concurrent with the Browning BDM here. Was told the magazines interchanged. They are slightly different and alterable, but.............
Any thoughts on who to contact in search of a genuine FN mag?
Thanks
For those who were a part of speculating on my 1905 chg 4 HE .38 S&Wthat had no military markings.
Per Roy Jinks it was one of 1200 shipped to the Union of South Africa on May 3, 1940.
For some reason the system will not allow me to post on the 38-200 thread??
I appreciate the tutorial. If I submit to a letter I will share the results.
Thank you.
Waidmann's Heil, Vielen dank.
The revolver in question is a 4 inch, with the exception of the lanyard loop commercial grade. It has no additional proof, inspection or property marks added. The serial number 685XXX puts it into the 1940/1 range, so I assume it went to a military contract.
Any ideas who received it?
