My business focuses on building bolt guns.
My hobby is giant scale radio controlled racing airplanes. I recently received a test coupon of Nickel/Boron. After fiddling with it I've decided to have my cylinder liners plated with it. (I've scratch built an 80cc 2S twin that runs on...
+1 on the vice. IMO Kurt is the ONLY answer here. Yes they cost more, but like a divorce they cost more cause they are WORTH IT. Another tool that's very handy is a coaxial indicator. Very quick for finding center on a hole. It'll get you close enough for most jobs. If you really need...
I've been in this trade for over ten years.
Can it be done? Sure. After all it is just a matter of putting threads on a cylinder concentric to the hole going down the middle. Certainly not rocket science although a little thought must be employed to do it right.
BUT. . .
. . .Is he going...
Cimtech makes very good coolant.
Two "skoolz" of thought on coolant. Either flood it or run it dry. Carbide experiences what's called "thermal shock" Especially when its coated. All that money you spend on coatings goes down the chip tray if you run mist coolant because the rapid...
Get a powerful light source and illuminate the barrel right ahead of the chamber. If the throat is badly eroded it'll have the appearance of a dried out mud puddle. you'll see cracking or a "frosted" look. It may also take on the appearance of the crescent moon from the 3 to 9 clock position...
If you want to "plumb guns" then I'd devote five years in a machine shop somewhere. Learn how to operate equipment/crash machines/ruin parts/make good parts/make great parts on someone else's dime.
Then start tinkering with guns. Guns are expensive. Nothing sucks more than ruining a 400...
First understand there's two different processes.
Case color hardening
Case color
The first is the actual case hardening process that will increase surface hardness about .01-.015 deep.
The second is newer and gives the appearance of the above. Much less heat is used and this means less...
Almost. . .
Crown it, install the brake (I do these last on everything, too easy to nick it up), stick a trigger in her, final fluff and buff, and it's off to the range!
Woo Hoos!
The final fit on the trigger guard and escutcheon was buggin me. As you can see in the photos above the height was a smidge off.
A wittle more sanding later. . .
Estucheon FEST last night.
300 series stainless buttons for the front guard screws on bench guns and single shots.
Can be used to play backgammon too.
Finally gettin around to sewing up that 300 Remmy Ultra too. Here's the stock after waxin er up.
Sanding, sanding, and more sanding...
I have a full service gunshop tooled with a quarter million in CNC equipment. I can do it for you and it won't be done with a laser, it'll actually be machined. Do it all the time. Pick out a font you like. Turn around time is a couple days at the most.
$5.00 per character. This includes...
I'm a gomer. Dunno why but I like making these little buggers.
Whipped up some for a Winny M70 that a cst is fixin to work on. The pile to the right are blanks that haven't had the 2nd op done yet.
New stud design too.
Woo Hoo!:D:D
I've used NON coated Dewey one piece cleaning rods for the last ten years as a gunsmith/gunmaker.
Hasn't effed me yet!
I don't like coated ones because if dirt/grit gets embedded in the plastic they turn into a lap.
