    Your Favorite Rifle

After 20 years of collecting and shooting most of the major battle rifles of WWI, WWII, and Korea, there is one rifle that that stands heads and shoulders above the rest; the M1 Garand. I could sell them all but I could never be without at least one Garand. JMHO

Best cleaning equipment for hard to reach areas

I would be very careful with dental picks. Bamboo "cocktail" skewers are stronger than toothpicks and won’t scratch like dental picks. I also like Popsicle sticks if you need a broader contact.

    M1 Carbine Prices

Orest Michaels mentioned (and I'm paraphrasing) in a recent CMP post that a "ballpark figure" might be around $400 to $1000 depending on condition and collectability.

Highlighting the numbers on a Garand rear sight

For what it is worth; this is how I do it: Before you start, make sure you clean the area thoroughly with acetone to remove any dirt, oil or grease. Lightly rub the lines and numbers with a sharpened white china grease marker, filling the indentations until they appear level. With a lightly...

    Refinishing my Garand M1 stock

I would wipe the exterior surface of the stock with a damp terry cloth, using a little Murphy's soap oil as a surfactant; taking care not to raise the grain. Make sure all of the soap oil is removed and let the stock air dry slowly and see how it looks. If there are still some oil spots I would...

    Ruger Mini - 14

I have a Mini-14 because I live in California. The day I move out, is the day I sell it for an AR. It is not a bad rifle; it's just that the AR is better.

    .308 Garand NOT an import???

I also have a 7.62 from Arlington Ordnance with a Nato commercial barrel. With the right ammo it is also very accurate and functions flawlessly as well. It is so much fun to have one of my Garands chambered for the 7.62 NATO round.:D

    Making the Mini-14 reliable?

I have a stainless and it is very reliable with factory mags. I was told that most after-market mags were not very good. If you shoot slow and allow the barrel to cool it is quite accurate at 100 yards, however if you put a lot of rounds through it in a short period of time the accuracy begins...

    Surplus 308?

If you live in the Bay Area, Los Angeles County or Orange County in California, Aim will not sell and or deliver ammunition to you to you. I e-mailed them and asked them what laws in Orange County prevented them from delivering their ammunition and they admitted there were none. They said "upon...

anyone have or shot a Johnson Rifle?

Last summer, a friend of mine introduced me to a gentleman that has one of the most impressive comprehensive military gun collections I have ever seen outside of a museum. The majority of the weapons were from WWI and II. He let us take his Johnson rifle to the range that day. He explained...

    Whats Your favorite Milsurp Rifle..

I own or have fired most of the military surplus rifles mentioned so far, and I keep coming back to my Garands. To me, a M1 rifle is as good as it gets.

Convince me why I need a Battle Rifle

I prefer to engage with a volume of accurate, penetrating fire from a distance, than to be up close and personal. The extra reach and punch of a .308 or 30.06 round vrs. a .223 round can give you an added margin of safety. I vote for an M1 in .308. Ammo in clips is lighter to carry than in 20...

    Ruger Mini 14 Ranch

I have owned a Mini-14 Ranch for about ten tears. I haven't done anything to it, but shoot and clean it. The Mini is a very reliable rifle. I do not remember any jams at all. I usually can shoot 4" groups at 100 yards. My son shoots 2 to 3. But then he out shoots me all of the time. :banghead:
