If there just shootin 22's it is probably an informal league. I would guess they are shooting slow fire which is 10 shots in 10 minutes shot at 50 yards. Then timed fire, 5 shots in 20 seconds twice, shot at 25 yards. And finally rapid fire, 5 shots in 10 seconds twice shot at 25 yards as well...

Sounds like there was no powder at all. just a primer will lodge a bullet in a barrel just fine. A little powder will at least get the bullet out of the barrel. Give yourself some credit for stopping when you did, good job. Things like that do happen when you reload. Get yourself a squib...

Im just the opposite, I had been shooting USPSA with a Glock, great gun. I tried an XD and it fit me better, scores went up right away. I wish it had been the other way around as I had a lot in the Glock but the timer doesnt lie. ;) Both are great but the XD works for me.

Well here are several recipes for 200gr lead in 38 special at ~ 725fps to 800fps. Im sure you could even back those down some to get a 140pf load that is very pleasent to shoot and still have plenty of authority on steel. :rolleyes...
