    Reloading for the XDs

Mirrors my experience. Just seated the bullets about .015 (IIRC) deeper, no problem. Thus far no real feeding problems. The plunk test is your friend.

What aspects of shooting do NOT interest you?

Cowboy shooting. Didn't take long to figure out that it's more about costumes than about shooting. Guns and Ammo magazine. It ceased to be interesting about 20 years ago. It's the same-ol'-same-ol' "top 100 30-06 loads" sorta stuff. The American Rifleman isn't far behind. Doubt if I read more...

    Sniping the gun buyback

Friend & I caught gun buybacks in Omaha early 90s. He snagged a "rebranded" Winchester pump 20ga. I got a 870 field model with just a bit of rust for $120, a S&W transition model 15 and a couple of boxes of ammo for $70. Very good haul. Local pd & organizers took note of the heretical...

    Another Ruger Contest

Double yawner. Got to go to Facebook to see the hints? Ain't gonna happen. Something more Ruger will dangle in front of us that won't be on the shelf for a year or more. Not playing either game. :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

    10mm club

Thompson-Contender Super 14 in 10mm. Most pleasant to shoot. The extra barrel gives enough more velocity, I've considered going deer hunting with it.

    Taylor's Wild Bunch 1911

The rounds appear to be 45 ACP, although the bullets (cast) might be seated a bit deep and over crimped. It's almost as though they were loaded by someone who had just migrated over from reloading for revolvers.

    Taylor's Wild Bunch 1911

It's a reference to part of The Wild Bunch plot. Pike (William Holden) and crew (The Wild Bunch) hold up a railway station, get shot up and escape only to find out later they were baited with sacks of washers (aka steel holes). Probably not fender washers, however. Internet movie database...

    difference in powder lots?

About 20 years ago I'd almost finished a 8# jug of H335, so I made a batch with the old and a batch with the new. The load: 223 Rem. / 55 gr. Hornady SX / 25 gr. H335 I chrono'd both and the new batch was 50 fps faster. I don't remember the velocities. Significant? Judge for yourself. While...

Anybody try ZMAX zombie 22 cal bullets?

I called Hornady about the Z-Max bullets about a year ago. Phone rep confirmed that they were V-Max, just changed tip color. Rep commented that Steve Hornady was a fan of zombie movies, hence the zombie bits & pieces.

    Biggest cartridge flops ...

376 Steyr ? 375 RCM ? They dropped out of sight so fast, there wasn't even a burp or splash.. I don't remember anyone mentioning them in this thread.. Or did I miss something?

    Coyote hunting round thoughts

6mm Rem or 243.. Coyotes put on quite a show when shot through the heart. One ran 50 yd., feet went out from under him. Jumped in the air twice and stayed there. The other went twice in a circle of about 6ft radius and DRT.

    cleaning 9mm cases?

Steel wool and elbow grease? I've cleaned weathered radio transmission (pure copper) line ends with dilute muriatic acid. Dip in solution for maybe 20 - 30 seconds, then into a saturated solution of water/baking soda and then rinse in water. Disclaimer: I've never tried it with brass...

Inmates use gun map to threaten guards

Twiki357 Quote: I don't know about the individuals (Reporter, editor, etc.), but from what I have heard on the news, the paper itself is on the verge of bankruptcy so I doubt that any law suit would accomplish much more than throwing dirt on the coffin. /unq. ? H335 experience

I'm with ZXD9. You really need to find out how close you're seating the bullets to the start of the rifling as that could explain a lot. The Hornady manual max of 23.5 gr. H335 seems a very valid recommendation. I've went beyond that in a Rem. 700 VSSF 223 (and don't recommend it), but it has a...

Using Winchester WSF for 115g lRN

According to the Hodgdon load data: http://www.hodgdon.com/ 124 GR. LEAD RN Winchester WSF .355" 1.169" 4.0 945 22,200 PSI 4.7 1055 27,300 PSI For some unknown reason, they don't list a WSF/115 LRN combination. Maybe then know something. However, extrapolating from loads with...

    Reloading ammo for long-term storage

1995 I crono'd some 1945 vintage GI ammo that had been properly stored (in a suitably cool and dry basement). The ammo was fired through a similar vintage Garand that was in good condition. The result was 2750 fps, IIRC. Considering all the variables and the years, I thought that spoke volumes.

    AA#7 for 9mm and 40 s&w

AA-7 is my go-to powder for 9mm and have had only good results with it. For a Helwan Brigadier, low to mid scale loads and max loads for a very fussy Browning HP GB. Good stuff!

A few antis and a gun owner....

Quote:Can anyone estimate how many time a handgun would have to be fired before the stamp is no longer readable? I can't imagine that engraving on the firing pin would hold up for long. :Unquote. Next- a requirement to have firing pins inspected at 6 month intervals. Death by a 1000 paper...
