    CC Cover Garment Draw

2 hand is primary for me as it is faster, but I practice 1 hand a lot as well. If my off hand is occupied, the 1 hand method will come naturally (if practiced).

Rifle Reviews in magazines...along with other reviews.

Funny American Rifleman got bashed already as well. I was gonna mention how much I like their accuracy standards. Pretty solid, 5 consecutive 5 shot groups @ 100 with a bunch of different loads. Their pistol testing is no slouch either. Far cry from "typical 3 shot groups are..." :uhoh:

    Bump in the night belt

I certainly didn't mean to derail the thread, I just mentioned what was on my gear. For perspective; the flex cuffs are by far the least important item...I wouldn't call them an "afterthought," but close...I suspect my odds of using them somewhere near zero, just above being in a multiple...

    Bump in the night belt

Flex cuffs, yeah they don't weigh anything. What happens when you put an intruder down and have to secure your kids or there is another one downstairs? Turn your back on a potential threat? Finish them off :what: (I don't recommend this...) I like having options. Yes, it is an unlikely...

    Bump in the night belt

That takes care of itself though. If you don't have time to grab something then you won't. However, that doesn't negate it being a good idea to have some gear together and staged if you do have time. I have body armor under my bed with a spare light, spare AR mag, spare pistol mag, and empty...

Force on Force simunition training in MN

Good luck! I hope your classes are full. FoF training is the most important you can get IMHO.

Red dot / barrel length / accuracy questions

#1 Position of the dot has nothing to do with accuracy. The biggest determinant of "accuracy" when shooting any handgun is going to be trigger control anyway. #2, Barrel length isn't all that important for accuracy, just velocity and recoil. Longer barrel results in more velocity and less...

    Ammunition choices for CC

^^^^ That revolver talk reminds me that for my wife's gun (S&W 386 Nightguard), I do have different ammo in it vs. speed loaders. Speer .38 +P 135g short barrel GD's loaded and Hornady Critical Defense on the speed loaders because the wide GD HPs tend to hang up during fast reloads and the...

    Ammunition choices for CC

Yes, over-thinking. Pick a good quality bonded HP such as those listed above and you get good expansion with controlled penetration AND good barrier performance. I've always stuck to Gold Dots just because they seem to be fairly easy to find at a decent price.

    Training at Gunsite

I think it depends how much the visit to Gunsite itself is worth it to you. Comparable training can be had closer for less, but they aren't Gunsite. If it is a bucket list thing for you, you should go. It is a great experience.

If you Conceal and Carry, Do You Also Wear Body Armor?

I don't think it is "paranoia" at all and would absolutely wear it if... ...there was an intersection of comfort, cost, and threat level that made sense to me. Right now with a very low threat level (far west suburbs of Portland which is a pretty safe city anyway), and the cost for these...

    Warrior Ethos

I'm with Water Garden, Recon is different from Situational Awareness (SA), even though Recon can add to SA. SA is real-time, Recon is an effort to confirm or deny information about a target or objective for a follow on operation. If you are seeing a criminal set-up in real time that isn't...

Does It Matter Which Gun I Use For Dry Fire?

I guess I don't see why it matters since you should be treating all guns as always loaded and the handling practices shouldn't be any different. I dry fire my carry gun all the time. I take it out of the gunvault, clear it and put the mag & round from chamber in vault and close it. Go...

    Force on Force observations

Sounds like a good class. I think once basic skills are learned, FoF training is the most important you can get...yet it is rarely offered outside LE/Mil circles and quite frankly, civilians don't seem to care. I'm not surprised you didn't think to use all those other things. That is a lot of...

    Larry Victors pistol marksmanship drill

Bring plenty of mags, more ammo than suggested, and an open mind. You probably have bad habits to be unlearned. I wish more gun owners would get formal training. It seems it is way under-valued except by those who've had it and see the dramatic differences in their performance as a result.

Absolutely No Live Ammunition In The Training Area.

I agree with the suggestion to just make a safe unloading area outside the training room. "Anything remotely resembling FoF they use a blue gun for." ...still in a room full of live weapons and ammo...:uhoh:

    Warrior Ethos

At the point of violence, nothing else matters. There is no civilization and LE ain't there. It is just you and them. Bad news is someone will likely be seriously injured or killed. Good news is you get a vote in who that person is...if you choose to exercise it without remorse or...

Claude Werner Article about FBI statistics on gunfights

Another factor, how much does LE statistics apply to a civilian self-defense situation? In a citizen self-defense situation, a criminal is trying to get as close to the citizen as possible to assault or rob them. Contact distance is a necessity to accomplish the crime and not let the prey get...

Close Quarter Gunfighting (with Simunition FoF), Portland, OR area January 20th

Close Quarter Gunfighting Typical gunfights happen in distances measured in feet, not yards. It can easily end up being a fistfight as much as a gunfight. Traditional range training does not prepare you for this reality. The Doru Training Group CQG course is a 1 day training class designed to...
