um unless you have reason for a cop to come to your residence (e.g.) drugdealer chances are its a phony. I have yet to see a criminal put in enough effort to make an authentic looking cop car.
at a range you probably can't even cross-fire so its not realistic. in a real fight you have to be on the move finding angles and getting the right distance, stationary targets get killed quickly.
i carry for a double action first shot safety off. that's over 10 pounds of trigger pull on a stock USP. There is no way that thing is going off by accident.
You have to acknowlege threats and don't allow them to get close where they pull a cheap shot. If they smell or look weird, don't be afraid of hurting feelings by intentionally keeping your distance. Be prepared to issue warnings and follow up with force if necessary.

having many guns without the right targeting systems is kind of pointless. acquiring top of the line optics and sensors should keep you busy for a while.
