Seduced by the Dark Side--My First Glock Gen 4

Might I suggest some mental and physical exercises to cure the problem. You stated loving the Glocks but not being comfortable carrying something without external safeties. I too went through this thinking, when I was switching back and forth between 1911's, (love the triggers and asthetics)...

    I'm Giving Up On 1911s

Add me to the list of folks who respect the design but don't trust them for carry. I've worked on quite a few for the guys at the range, and built some myself, (search build threads under my screen name for more info) but the honest truth is this..... 1911's are for guys who want to learn, or...

    40 cal ccw

been carrying and training with a G27 for 4 years. Great piece. If you're into shoulder rigs, spend the money and get the galco. I've got over 1,000 days on one and it's still like new

Recommendation on a 45 ACP for woman

You can't safely carry a locked and cocked 1911 in a purse if you choose to carry one of these make sure you use a holster. As for which one? I like what you said. Heavier guns mitigate recoil.

    1911 Trigger Pull Kit

Stoning the sear to the correct angle, making sure the hammer is cut to 89 degrees and has no more than .020 hook height, and adjusting both of the leaves on the spring will do wonders for most 1911's. If you want to buy the parts, that's cool, go ahead and get them, but honestly, you'll have...

Is it my duty to buy a 1911?

yes it is your duty to buy one. And the 9, and the 38, and the 40.......... yes, one of each is your duty. Seriously.

Is the 1911 a Reliable Design?

okay, I'll play. soo......... If the reason is that the lawyer's won't let them carry them, one must ask, "why won't the lawyers let them carry them?" Are the lawyers pro-plastic? Anti single action? What is it that causes the lawyers to not want police and military to carry 1911's? Oh...

The 1911...I just don't get it.

I have had 4 1911's, customized 3 of them, and the 4th was a collector piece built 50 years ago. They all shot nice, but my newest one is a target master with a 3 1/2 lb trigger and a nice, tight bull barrell. etc..... 1911's are pretty. Historical. Nice triggers, (best for target only...

Is the 1911 a Reliable Design?

I do not consider the limited capacity single stack prone to have a .5% ftf rate as a great option for trusting my life to it. Though I have carried 1911's, I generally carry a glock when in normal clothing and a 5 shot revolver when dressed skimpy. Either of these guns have proven to me to be...

    Choosing between a S&W 39-2 and Sig p6

either will do everything you need them to. See which one fits better and go with it. That being said, I owned a 39-2 and in a moment of weakness sold it. I regret not still having it.

    finally got my first 1911

Congratulations, and welcome. As for magazines, look at the tripp research ones. They are just as good as the wilsons in resisting the first round canting forward, (common 1911 problem,) but they also have a metal band on the slide stop area. Best mags I've ever seen for 1911's..... ENJOY

    1911 suggestions

I like to buy used springfields for like 4-500 and then put on my own beaver tails, triggers, etc, if you have 800 to spend total you could build a gun yourself that would sell for 1500 on the market...... Reference, "built 1911 from scratch" threads elsewhere in this forum

    2nd 1911 built from SCRATCH

how about you bluethunder? What work have you done on guns, and/or would like to learn? Do you have a project you'd like to have done but need tools, or do you have something you want to do as soon as you have time..... what's your next project?

    2nd 1911 built from SCRATCH

AWESOME, that's cool that you re-did the slide finish. So you sold this gun then is that it? What's next, and be sure to put photos of it up when you get working on it!!!! I like the Glockish slide stop, designed to work as a slide stop and not a slide release eh? Very cool and stout...

    Motorcycles and firearms

I don't currently have a street ride, but have been road racing Yamaha's for 20 years. I used to have a Gold Wing for street use back in the early 2000's

    2nd 1911 built from SCRATCH

hey thanks Rail. You can steal my rules and print them if you like, one ONE CONDITION. You take pics of that RIA while your working on it and post them here to motivate OTHERS who are hesitant to touch their guns. If you can't jump into a project on your gun and USE those rules, then you...

    Newbie Question

Fitment is one issue, rather easily handled. The other issue is tougher. The way the firing pin safety works is that levers from within the receiver should push the plunger in the slide up, and then that will allow the firing pin access to the primer. Without that lever, (I'm betting by...

Do you prefer a Concealed Carry handgun WITH or WITHOUT a manual safety?

When I ride gold wings or harleys, I shift one down and four up conventionally. when I race sport bikes on road courses, we shift one up, and five down so that we can upshift while leaned over all the way. What's my point? Understand the design of what you are carrying, and do what is...
