    Capstick and shotguns

When Pedro entered the thick stuff after a wounded leopard, he also wore a football helmet, and good quality leather clothing. I once asked him who's team the helmet was from but never got a straight answer from that question. He was a great friend. Too bad he left us early.

has anybody flown w/firearms since the most recent terrorist attempt?

I'll let you know shortly after the 1st. I fly from Denver to Texas on New Years day and I must say it concerns me a bit, but will find out for sure Friday.

    Flying with firearms

I just flew from Dallas Love Field to DIA in Denver via Southwest Airlines and had zero problems. As a matter of fact it seemed like I got better service with a firearm than without. Only thing I question is a tag on my bag in white with red diagol lines across it then 45 hand written on it...

    Arkansas Hunt

Here is the story of the Arkansas hunt I went on a few weeks ago. My deer hunt went fairly well. First day was spent chasing our tails up and down mountains if you can call them that in Arkansas. Second day was a little more fruitful. We hunted Sunday morning fairly hard and it still...

    1911 38super

I have a Kimber Polished Stainless II in 38 Super. It is a great pistol and I've never had any problems from it. Friend of mine has one also. No problems from his either and now that we both have worked up loads for them, they are hard to beat. Let the Kimber Nah sayers bash all they want.

    .45 ACP Nay-sayers. . .

I've killed three deer with a 45acp over the last few years. If you have the skill, and know your limitations on distance it is a fun cartrige to hunt with. Congratulations on your accomplishment.

    300wby

Nice grouping. Mine likes the 180 grainers better. I leave for Mt. Ida, Arkansas, tomorrow to find out what it will do to a whitetail. I'm zeroed for 300 yards. I've never shot game before with mine.

    1911 .22 conversion slides

Well the magazine fit, but the slide did not. Would not go far enough to the rear to get the slide lock back into place.

    Finally!!!

Hunting Set Up This will be my hunting set up for this year. The 629 is my normal "deer rifle." I don't even know how many deer I have shot with that pistol. I'll use it in wooded areas that may give me a 100 yard shot. I've taken game at 130 yards with it and am WELL versed on where...

    How Was Your Opening Weekend???

Opening weekend for me is this Saturday near Mt. Ida, Arkansas. I'll be gone a week so I'll report when I get back.

How clean do you keep your guns?

Revolvers = Once a year whether they need it or not. I don't shoot them much any more except my 629. It gets cleaned before hunting season then after. It's a safe queen most of the time. My other revolvers have turned into safe queens. Semi Auto loaders (pistols) Once every outting...

    1911 .22 conversion slides

I have the conversion unit but have never put it on anything but my 45's. I also have a Kimber 38 Super and have never tried it on the 38 but will give it a whirl this evening. I'm not sure the magazine will fit the 38 or not. That would be the question I have. I will try this combination...

    Finally!!!

Thank you for all the kind words of incouragement and thank you for the prayers. I hope this is not the last hunt, but if it is, it will be most enjoyable. Yes kanook, I will be carring a pistol on some days. I've toyed with the idea of my 38 Super, but will probably take my 44 mag...

    Finally!!!

Since January I've undergone surgery to have a kidney removed, chemo, blood thinners and doctor consults. Still on the chemo, but the blood thinners have goneby the way side and was finally able to shoot my 300 Weatherby mag not to long ago and it was still very much on target at 100 yards...

weigh in on my next rifle

It's just an excuse to buy another gun and I happen to agree with that line of thought.

When you hunt do you take an autoloader or a revolver backup?

My primary hunting gun is a 6 inch model 629 so I don't carry another gun.

    Leupold Rifleman vs. Nikon Prostaff

Leupold might be the better of the scopes, I'm not really sure. I can say this without a doubt, I have a Nikon ProStaff on my Weatherby and I like it a lot. I just shot it this weekend after not shooting it for a year or so, but the scope was still dead center on, hadn't budged a bit. The...

First deer hunt. 7 point buck harvested!!! -picture heavy-

Just barely braze the backstrap steaks, then stick them in a crock pot with cream of mushroom soup. Let cook near all day, then serve over rice. So tender you can cut the steaks with just your fork.
