Saw a video the other day stating that there is not a huge difference in spread patterns between a 28in and 18.5in shotgun barrel with birdshot because of chokes. Not sure I believe that but does it make a huge difference for rifled slugs?
Alright. I've decided that it might be good for me to have a general use shotgun (in addition to carbine) ready for... whatever.
The shotgun is a FN SLP. A Semi-Auto 3" mag with an 18.5" barrel and an 8 round mag tube.
It has sights on it already (post in front with rear ring). I have had...
1st shotgun: When I was a kid, my grandpa's friend kept a single shot 410 shotgun at my grandpa's cabin. I shot it once, and it was really nice. I cannot for the life of me remember the brand/model of the gun.
Here is what I remember about it: It was a hammerless break action of course, but...
Do any of you guys or gals have any experience with those caliber specific inserts for break action shotguns? Like the rifled adapters that fit into the chamber?
How accurate are they in your experiences?
Are they worth getting?
It seems like they'd be a great addition to a shotgun trunk gun...
Hey guys, first time poster here. I've recently picked up a nice pre-serial number Stevens Model 94 in 20 gauge and have been having issues with the gun not going bang every time I pull the trigger. It works properly maybe 2/3 of the time. I have been able to fire every misfired shell if I...
I have been reading up on firearm law for a long time and have been a gunsmith for about a year and some change so i like to think i have a solid grasp on the laws. I was thinking recently about a way to build a "sawed off shotgun" (pistol grip, no stock) that would not need a tax stamp. i think...

I'm so disappointed in Standard Manufacturing. I think Lou Frutuoso will show up at SHOT 2019 with the same plastic facsimile he's put on display at SHOTshow 2016 and SHOTshow 2017. He may have had it on display at SHOTshow 2019 but I think...
This shotgun, an Armalite AR-17 came into our shop and I got it at what I thought was a good price.
It has a broken extractor/ejector on the inside of the receiver. It was difficult for me to photograph with my phone and my limited photography skills.
I am neither an expert in Armalite, nor...
Depends on distance and situation I guess. I did once kill a large coyote @ 75 yards wth a 12 Ga 3 1/2" with '0' buckshot, but it didn't fall immediately dead like they usually do when I hit 'em with my .223 Rem.
I apologize in advance if this has been asked before. I recently got into cowboy action shooting, and need to do a chamber job on my SxS so hulls will slide out nicely when I break her open. Any recommended methods?
Thanks guys.
Hey all, I recently received a carlson's barrel through Midway for my 870. Issue is though where it was made wasn't my reason for choosing this company(reviews were) but on the side it plainly says made in Turkey. How can they advertise as made in USA then plainly say made elsewhere? If it...
Hey all I finally found a carlsons barrel for my 870 in 24"(from what I've heard since I don't hunt birds short is better). I plan on buying a set of all the same chokes most likely just in different patterns, can anybody point me in the right direction for which model would be good all around?
Hey all we have a bad coyote problem in my residential neighborhood (up against a hillside is where the shot would take place). I have permission from DNR to take any that come inside of treeline as well as all my neighbors already agreeing they would love for me to handle them. MY QUESTION IS...
Hey all I'm from WV where shots are almost always under 100 yards, I've been using a 30-06 with nosler ballistic tips and getting good results. My question is at this range are my bullets even expanding or using their potential or would I be better off with a 30-30 or slug shotgun?
I already know that you can’t shoot 3.5 in anything less than 3.5 due to dangers of the chamber exploding. However, can you shoot 2.75 and 3 inch in a 3.5 EFFECTIVELY? I realize that you can, but will it cycle better in a 3 inch shotgun rather than a 3.5 inch shotgun? Also, if this is the case...
Does anyone make a mag fed semi auto shotgun that isn't priced over $1000? Preferably even lower. (This includes the work it takes to run smooth cough* saiga)
I've read the CSA Cavalry used shotguns because they were cheaper and the South had limited manufacturing ability and often soldiers had to bring their own guns.
What specific models of shotguns were used?
Were they percussion cap or flintlock?
Muzzleloaders or break action?
Greetings all, first post!
I am interested in shortening my Browning A5, but am having a hard time nailing down precise definitions. What I currently have is a 20-something inch barrel and a shoulder stock. I plan to shorten the barrel to less than 18", but overall length will exceed 26" (the...
