10/22 and scope question.

What scope for my 10/22

I have a 10/22 with 18" bull barrel and will be shooting at 25, 50, 75, and maybe 100 yards. Now I know the scope I want is the Nikon Prostaff prefer the BDC retical (for hunting). I am looking at either the 4-9x40 with BDC, 4x32 Nikoplex rimfire classic, or 2-7x32 with Nikoplex. Now out of these three, what do you guys suggest. Both of the scopes with zoom are set at 100yrd paralax while the 4x32 rimfire is set at 50yrds. Also keep in mind I will be shooting mainly at 25 and 50 yards. I just don't know what scope will work better with this rifle and my application of hunting and target shooting. :confused: Please steer me in the right direction. Thanks.
 
The 4x32 will probably be better simply because the parallax is right for the ranges you are shooting. I bought an AO because I could focus down to 10 yds. or to infinity. Just easier to put on target.
 
I prefer more zoom in a 22 scope. Usually the targets are smaller, and I like to be able to identify them better without any other optics, especially through brush or grass. Plus, at longer ranges, it may negate the need for a spotting scope to see your bullet holes in a target.
 
I second the Mueller.....I don't think you'll be the least bit disappointed, and...if you are....you're definitely in the minority
 
Mueller 4.5-14 APV is the answer, poor choices on poll.;)

The Mueller is super clear, in close use 4.5, @100 yards target shooting
14.0 is the answer, easy to see bullet holes.
 
I like my heavy barrel. Yields better groups. Is the Mueller really as clear, or clearer than the Nikon. I got a 4-9x40 for my .223 rifle and am really sold on Nikon at this point.
 
My Mueller APV is more clear then my Nikon Monarch, now I understand many won't agree with the following but in my opinion the Nikon line is not what it used to be how ever many swear by them.

The Mueller APV cost around $120.

Wow that is a heafty boast!

Ya I found the Mueller on Amazon for $129 free shipping. Whats the warrenty on Mueller? Also anything has to be better than the $35 wally world Tasco on it now. The tasco is not that clear and it strains my eyes after about 50 rounds. Thats why I want something with some clarity.

Sporter and mid-weight barrels are just as accurate without handling like a stick of railroad.

Muellers are excellent scopes for the money. However, I really don't like a big AO variable on a field gun. Unnecessary weight, complexity and bulk.
 
See Craig thats what I'm thinking also. I have an AO on my Savage .22 and its ok for it but want something simple for this 10/22. Although it is mainly a bencher I may take it out to the wood on occasion thats why the bull does not bother me. It will just work out the old left forearm :D. I'm also leaning toward the Nikon 2-7x32 because Cabelas has it on sale for $94.99.
 
I just mounted my Mueller APT on a Savage MKII TR and it is an outstanding scope for the money. $155 out the door that including sales tax.
 
The Mueller has a lifetime warranty, I have 3 never any problems, if your mainly a field guy then you want something small my shooting is mainly bench so I like power and clarity. I don't see the APV 4x14 a problem in the field but perhaps some would, I'm 65 plus and don't mind the extra weight.

The Nikon may suit your needs if so then it simply comes down to finding best price.

My 10/22 has a butler creek heavy barrel,Boyd laminated stock, CPC reworked trigger, a joy to shoot and very accurate.
 
Of the options listed I chose the fixed 4x, which is great for hunting, though I really don't feel any of the above are right for the mixed use that you mention. I would, instead, go with a moderate-high magnification (something like a 3-12x or 4-16x) scope with adjustable parallax (either AO or side-focus).

Based on opinions stated here and other places, I recently purchased a 4.5-14x Mueller and like it very much. It's clear and bright, though the exit pupil is a bit smallish.

I put it on a .223 Rem Tikka and it's proven to be very accurate, so far. I like it better than my Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x.
 
Mueller 4.5-14 APV is the scope of choice for the 10/22.

Thats what I put on mine and love it so far. On that gun I've gone through Simmons, Tasco, Leupold and Weaver but I think this one is a keeper.
 
Well I've made up my mind. I'm going with the Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 shotgun hunter with 75yrd paralax and Nikoplex retical. My wife is at Cabelas right now picking it up for $94.99. I think thats a pretty great price. I've researched the Mueller and it has great reviews but I have always been a brand loyal customer and am impressed with the Nikon line. I do however have a Savage MKII .22lr that has a 4-16x40 Simmons scope that I am not to keen on. The scope itself is good but the glass is rather cloudy compaired to the Nikon. Also don't know if it makes a difference but it is actually an air rifle scope. It seems to work fine for the .22lr though. Thanks for all the input!!!
