So anyone heard or know if there is some sort of differences regarding the black or red followers in the 10/22 magazines?

My oldest 10/22 circa 1984 has a magazine with a black follower. My newer 10/22 rifle magazine has a red follower. My Ruger American .22LR rifle has the same magazine with a red follower. I don't know why any difference in color exists.

What got me thinking was that I came across even a third color today. The gun store owner was showing me his stash of 10/22 magazines he bought in error. All of the followers were bright green because they were all for left handed 10/22 rifles. Never saw a left handed 10/22, and it never occurred to me the magazine might be backwards. Sure 'nuff they exist!

I'd love to see a photo of the lefty magazines sometime!

My theory (SWAG really) is the red color may in some way be linked with Ruger's marketing of their BX line of accessories. Or maybe it's just about visibility.

My black ones seem to have weak springs, and have trouble when slightly dirty or in cold weather, no trouble with the red ones.

It's a bit tricky, but I've dialed in some extra force on a couple of mine using the flats on the hexagonal end as a guide.

Originals were black. 50th anniversary was red, in a clear mag body. Ever since, i think they have all been red. Even single and 5 shot mags.

I didnt even know they made a left handed 10/22. Do the make left handed BX mags too?
