I have purchased the 10/22 takedown with flash suppressor.Without the factory installed flash suppressor, the barrel would be 14 1/2 inches, with suppressor 16 1/2 inches. What would the velocity be for a 22 40 grain high velocity from the 14 1/2 inche barrel? From an 18" it would be about 1250 fps.

is the flash suppressor welded on? if not, it's likely the barrel is 16.5" without it. otherwise, it would be an NFA item.

Got to be pinned or welded so you have what you have. Shoot standard velocity in it. Velocity will hold up closer to advertised velocity from a shortend barrel better and be more accurate. Try cci standard green , wolf , sk, federal 711b. Who cut the barrel?

MY OP was not read. I said it was a factory 10/22. No aftermarket work, staright from the factory.

Moderator, could you please close this thread?

Are you sure it's welded on?

Any of ruger's other threaded barrels I've seen were never welded and the barrels were of legal length without th ed muzzle device.

I respectfully ask there be no more replies and thread closed. My wife is dying and hospice is caring for her.my original post concerned velocity and I stated it came from the factory this way. The flash suppressor is factory installed and will not budge.I do not know Rugers process. What I had hoped would be a relaxing post to get my mind off things momentarily has gone into anything but. I have taken the barrel assemby from the takedown and it is 16 1/2".I failed to take in the entire length at first. Byron

Byron, my guess is you'd be close to even on velocity but it's more dependent on ammo than barrel length at 16". A recent thread linked to a chart with velocities of .22 lr fired from pistol and rifle length barrels and it was an eye-opener. I'll look for the link, though it does not specifically address your query.

On a personal note, my prayers go out to your wife and you and here's hoping you both find a few moments of normalcy.

I'm aware of the factory model you have and was only trying to suggest that perhaps you were mistaken with regard to barrel length. As mentioned velocity is probably more a matter of ammo and specific bbl than bbl length.

Muzzle devices are sometimes difficult to remove without having the bbl clamped on a vice.

My best to you and your wife.
