10-8 detrimental to police

I usually don't watch this show, but happened to catch the very beginning and figured I would see what it was like.

Well...I turned it off after about 3 minutes.

The policemen are chasing a man with a cleaver who had just threatened someone's life. The suspect gets cornered in an alley and turns with knife in hand and rushes the cop who the whole time has been aiming at the man's chest.
Here's the kicker - Cop lowers weapon and makes a great shot right in the center of the suspects left thigh. Suspect drops knife and is cuffed.

There are enough people out there that think police can and should do this. :banghead:

You should have watched the entire episode, rather than turn it off and deride the show for a grand total of 3 minutes of viewership.

The trainee who fired the shot into the mans thigh was reprimanded quite extensively throughout the show for his actions. Both his T.O. and Captain made the point to him that he should have fired center mass at the perp. In fact, the very next scene had the trainee and his T.O. at the range, where Trainee Amante was being made to practice failure-to-stop, or 'Mozambique' drills.

Ernie Hudson, who plays the training officer, is in fact a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, and adds quite a bit of credibility and authenticity to the show. Is it perfect? No, but it's better than a lot of the other cop shows that have been on the air over the years.

I heard the radio ad for that episode.

"Protocol is two to the chest, one to the head!"

I was wondering what that show was. I was sort of tuning out the advertising when the description of the "Mozambique" suddenly caught my attention. I now recognize it as Ernie Hudson's voice.

I had pieced together enough context to assume it was for some sort of police or military show, but didn't hear what the show was.

First time I think I've ever heard of the Mozambique refered to on TV, by name or by description.

Heheheh... I worked here a year before I noticed there was a gun on this belt.

But seriously, folks. It's not like fancy-schmancy gun handling is a new thing. It seems that the lone ranger, in his effort to preserve human life, never actually shoots the bad guy, but rather the gun in the bad guy's hand. It's TV.

Well, if the cop had really been well trained, he would have snap shot the cleaver from the aggressor's hand, leaving him with a sore hand just like in the cowboy movies.

As TV cop shows go 10-8 is pretty good. Closer to reality than "Cops". I like the ribbing the "trainee's" get.

I've heard that this show is supposed to be really good, but unfortunately we don't have it over here

I really do enjoy Third Watch, though.

It was a good episode.

After the rookie keeps complaining that he thinks he did the right thing, because he "felt" the guy with the cleaver really didn't want to hurt anyone, he gets the speech from his T.O. about not getting emotionally involved with suspects and not wanting to see any of his officers get killed.

And then he makes him shoot some more two to the chest, one to the head.

As is should be.
