Since this is Rifle Country . . .
1. .22 Long Rifle - paper punching to pest control
2. .30/06 -
Good choice for all thin-skinned, non dangerous game world wide, short of eland & giraffe.
3. .375 H&H - Good choice for everything else, up to & including elephant.
4. .458 Lott - My #1 choice for a "stopper" rifle in a bolt action, considering both ballistics and ammo. (You
can use standard .458 Win Mag . . . )
5. .475 NE No. 2 - Though .470 may be more practical, this is my choice for a "stopper" rifle in a double barrel, should I ever get one.
6. .223/5.56 NATO - ubiquitous choice for the AR platform, and a good varmint round.
7. .308/7.62 NATO - when a poodle shooter just isn't enough
8. 9mm P - OK, a subgun is
almost a rifle, and a suppressed subgun (e.g., HKMP5SD) makes for an excellent home defense arm.
9. .338 Lapua - a great round for long range sniping, without the weight of a .50.
10. 57mm Recoiless - The U.S. M18 was the first deployed platform
designed to fire a modern cannon round from the shoulder. A 3-lb explosive shell at 1200 ft/sec is pretty impressive, even today.
