Now that the legality nonsense is over, is there any hope for reliable larger than 10 round single stack 1911 mags? Or are the technical problems just too daunting for MecGar, Wilson, McCormick, etc to do it?

I am aware of and understand the opinions of 8+ round 1911 mags for self defense, but nevertheless, *reliable* 12 round mags from reputable manufacturers would be handy for playing @ USPSA or just plain old range fun.

I suppose you could make a 50 rd single stack mag if you extended it out the mag well a couple of feet. Other than that, I'll stick with the 7 rounders myself. :)

I don't think you could make a 12 shot .45 1911 barrel under 170mm for IPSC Limited. I have a couple of old Mecgar 11 shot magazines that feed ok but are of such soft steel that one drop with a round still in them will splay the lips enough to keep them from falling free the next time. So you could have an 11+1 start if somebody would make them with better steel. There are a lot of 10 round .45s on the market that help in Limited or L10.

My 10rd McCormick mag would hold 12 .40's and feeds well (' tried it on my friends Caspian .40 cal 1911). Now I think I have to build one myself. Thanks for giving me another reason to build one. :)

There are 12 round single stack mags available right now: just buy yourself 1911 in .40 and get the CMC "10 round" .45 mag and start stuffing the .40's in to it. It holds 12 and feeds perfectly in my STI .40
