Careful, you will shoot the bad guys eye out;)

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Police in Bellingham, Wash., say a 10-year-old boy defended his mother from an attacker by shooting him in the face with a BB rifle as many as four times.

Paul R. Newman, the man accused of the attack, rents a room in the woman's home and came home drunk and angry Tuesday morning. Police say he kicked in a bedroom door and started choking the woman, according to Associated Press.

Officers say the boy hit the attacker with a board and then shot him in the face with the pump-action BB rifle as he grappled with the woman.

The woman and boy were able to flee to a neighbor's home and call for help.

Newman was treated at a hospital and arrested for investigation of assault and making death threats.

The victim, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to KOMOnews.com.

Yep. This happened in my town. Here where the kids will sting the heck outta you with the ol' Red Ryder.

Someone needs to buy that boy a nice 20 gauge 870. I have been thinking about looking him up and donating one of my pump guns to the lad.:D:D

Now all that said... Imagine if you will .... Mr. Newman sitting in jail talking with some other sack of dirt. Hey man...what ya in for? Oh...assault. How'd they catch ya? Oh...the woman's son shot me. REALLY?! Where did he get ya? Oh...in the face. With what ....?! Oh...a BB gun. HAHAHAHA.......that's silly man.

At age 10 I had a 20 ga....imagine how this guy would feel if this boy did as well....

If it was New Jersey, the mom would have been arrested for not having a license for the BB gun and allowing a minor access to a 'firearm' which didn't have a lock on the trigger and would have probably faced five years in jail. The kid would have been sent to a facility and be charged with the Graves act, attempted murder with a firearm and charged as an a adult.

But thank God it didn't happen in NJ.

Let's give the kid some credit. He did under pressure what the rest of us really only talk about.

Agreed 100%

We can talk about S&T all we want but when the S hit the fan it all boiled down to this kid's actions, not talk. I don't suppose he spent a lot of time planning his response to home invasions or asault on his mother in their own home but when it happened his instincts took over and he did what he could with what he had available at the time.

Mindset prevailed.

I can't recall the last time I saw any proposal to use a BB gun for defense of home and family, might want to stash one in the bedroom corner now.

Good for the Kid. Prayers that him and mom get a real gun and learn how to use it.
The kid needs a medal from the Police for his heroic actions. He did with out training or studing Mas etc what we work toward being able to do.

The reason I don't give my kids BB guns, is that it is illegal to discharge them within most municipalities in Utah. (I know a lot of people do it anyway.) I figure, if I have to go out of town to practice anyway, I might as well start with .22s.

Somebody buy that kid a root beer. I hope he's not too shaken, and I hope he gets some good counseling and support from family and friends (I would imagine he may be a little traumatized). Good on him for defending his mother.

Once again shot placement trumps caliber!!! Kinda....hahahah hope they are both OK and Mr. Drunk man decides to give up drinking and attacking women and 10 year old kids after sometime incarcerated.

Would you want to be shot with one? :D

I hope the kid gets some counseling - that's a lot to go through for a 10 year old.

I also hope he gets something with a little more punch for Christmas. I'd buy the kid a Marlin 60 and enroll him in a hunter's safety course.

Anyone for taking up a collection to get him a jr NRA membership and trust fund for a gun under his mom's supervision when he become of age? Maybe writing his local mayor for some kind of heroism award, too.
