Nice, I didn't know about those, I may try one. Here's a comparison of the original front sight with a .052" from KNS. Ultimately I used the .072" as I felt the former was a bit thin. 35W
Can't remember how I stumbled across them, but glad I did. I just got a couple a few months ago so can't say about longevity yet. Not as tight as some of the steel sights can be, but as long as they stay put should be fine. Maybe some blue loctite for insurance, time will tell. I've got a half dozen or so original AK front sight posts in one of my parts drawers now...lol I used to run the Crapco plastic ones for the visibility but they left a good deal to be desired, and crumble to pieces regularly so I was constantly replacing them. Kinda surprised KNS doesn't offer anodized aluminum ones, I've been running their adjustable gas pistons since they came out with them as well as pieces parts for AR's. I think they make good stuff for reasonable cost.
When I was a kid and just starting to buy guns the import sks was in it's heyday. They were cheaper than a 10/22, and ammo was everywhere for giveaway prices. My first semi auto was an sks. I had tons of them over the years, and some shot very well. I grew out of them when ar15s became affordable, and sold off all but one when they started getting expensive. I pulled out my sks last night after about three years of it collecting dust and the nostalgia hit me hard! All of the old muscle memory instantly took over and I found myself happy to be fiddling with it again. Are there better guns? Yes there are. Are there worse guns? For sure. But the sks will always have a place in my safe, even if I don't use it much.
You must be pretty near sighted lol. Hitting a man as far as you can see. I have hit man size targets at 600 meters with an issue M-14. A 6 MOA SKS would mean it can only hit a 36 inch circle at best at that range. I can see a lot further than that. And have traded fire at that range against AK's and SKS's. They missed my whole truck. Enjoy your SKS. I would avoid long range gun fights though.
W You definitely can see and shoot real well. At that distance people would look like ants to me an I don't think I could hit one with anything without a scope but I'm not a trained professional. For average lay man to make such a shot with anything would be a miracle. In my part of the country you can't see 600 meters because there will always be a tree or mountain blocking your view
There's a company up here in Canada called Magwedge that makes a replacement rear sight for the SKS called Raveneye. Is basically the rear leaf with a peep instead of a v. It's interesting that the peep circle lines up exactly with the round front sight hood ring for me. Almost ensures I'm lined up.

Last I checked, the SKS was still legal here (and many were bought and shot in Québec, the worst province for gun enthusiasts, I think). I might have misread. The Canadian government contemplates the idea to allow cities and provinces to ban all handguns, though.

I though your government banned everything worth a crap years ago! From what I heard you can't even get a Remington 870 12 gauge anymore as part of a ban on "military style" weapons. Idk what they expect you poor folks to do of a bull moose jacked up on testosterone comes a charging

Same here... I'm lucky to find 100yds between the trees, and not have the cops show up. I've often wanted to get a nice PLR like a Bergara B-14 BMP but there really isn't any point.
Yes. The long barrel lug ones are threaded to the receiver and the short lug ones are pinned if I recall right. The supply of SKSs up here is starting to get thin. 10 to 12 yrs ago there were 1960s Chinese factory 25 and 26 ones coming in that were unfired and still in cosmoline. They were $200 each. Nice Russian refurbs could be had for between $100 and $200. Some dealers would add an SKS for $79 if you bought a 1200 rd crate of ammo. The prices are going through the roof now. I recently sold one of the unfired Chinese ones for $500. My accuracy results at 100 yds are similar to the others here. Minute of fun!

The group size of 8 inches at 100 yards is not uncommon. My new in the box Chinese SKS and "Paratrooper" Carbine can do a little better wit a 6 inch group at 100 yards, and the Yugoslavian better yet, but against a Garand or a Colt AR-15 they will always come in second best. I'm not one to sink money in any SKS or AK to improve accuracy I just enjoy them the way they are. If your striving for 2 inch groups or better at 100 yards buy something else!
I got a Chinese and a Russian SKS two years ago, haven't shot them much but Daniel did better than I have, and I am pretty good at iron sight shooting. Most AK-47 I have shot do better than the the SKS I have but most SKS are surplus refurbished , but I haven't tried to accurize the SKS like some have. 223/556 is a very accurate cartridge. 7.62x39 is a inherently inaccurate cartridge no matter what others say who defend it excluding hand loaders and 5.45x39 is a lot more accurate than 7.62x39. AK and SKS where never design to be precision rifles. best result I have had from Russian. and three results from testing ammo in my Chinese Norinco
Also just to say, the majority of average shooters I see at my range over the years most won't go past 50 yards shooting with any kind of rifle even AR, and those that do go to 100 yards 85% of them use some kind of optic, on a SR-1 target with a 6 inch black circle that circle is like the size of a pin at 100 yds, I use a 6 o clock hold like a dot riding on top of the front post. For rifles like a AK and SKS if most shots stay in the black that is about the best I think can be expected,
I don't plan to put any effort into making mt SKS more accurate. That's what I've got Ar's and other bolt guns for. However, if I were to get so inclined, before changing barrels or triggers, I'd probably start with a heavier bullet. The most common rds for 7.62 x 39 seem to be 122gr. With a twist rate of approx 9.5, I suspect it would do better with something around 140gr to 160gr. Someone here has probably already figured out these details.
"No matter what other say who defend it." Hmm... you may want to revise that statement a bit... like maybe just delete it altogether. A statement like comes from a pure lack of knowing... lacking broad experience with the cartridge. Depending on which of the many brands and loads you're using, it's capable of sub MOA. Aww, but what do I know? My experience with x39 only spans 35 years in many different firearms chambered for it.
