Just picked up a mint S&W 1026 (5in version of the 1076 FBI weapon) 10mm at a show last week. Been working so much, I just last night began to look at it closely. It looks unfired with no wear, almost NIB condition. If it wasn't for the slightly dirty white followers in the mags I would say it was unfired but because of the unburnt powder, I'm sure it was fired although hardly at all. Picked it up for $450.00 with three mags. I think this was a screaming deal:cuss: !!!! Had a few questions about the decocker Smiths.

1. How rare is the 1026? I've never seen one (which doesn't mean anything) but I thought they didn't make many or weren't popular. Are they rare enough not to shoot?

2. How durable are the 10mm Smiths? Were they discontinued for lack of durability?

3. The gun came with three white follower mags. I remembered some follower colors are better than others. I've seen yellow followers in S&W tens. Are they better?

4. Was there a recall on these decocker models a while back? Or am I confusing the FBI recalling their 1076's because of a decocker problem?

5. Anything special about the decocker models that I should know about? You hardly see them around in shops (used section).

That's exactly the one I've been looking for and that seems like a great deal to me. I have heard nothing but good things about the old Smith 10's.
The reason you don't see them (IMO) is that at the time they had a jillion models available between calibers, barrel lengths, trigger types, safety mechanisms, etc... and simply didn't sell as many guns as they thought they would. Too much diversity in models without high sales numbers hurts.

I haven't heard about any problems with the decocker, but I haven't looked into it either. I have a 3rd gen Smith auto (6906) and the safety/decocker on the slide sucks. Would much rather have just a decocker on the frame.

Good price.

I have its bigger brother the 1006 model. Got it at a gunshop in Feb for $400 with 1 mag.

I picked up 2 extra mags for $20 each used. 1 is white and the other 2 are yellow follower mags and they all work superbly.

Winchester STX ammo is what I currently shoot out of it cause its in good stock here at the local gunshop. UMC practice ammo is available too.

Drop by www.doubletapammo.com/main_site/ for some good 10MM ammo choices.

I use the 1006 for a bush gun. Carry it anytime Im out in the wilderness. Little heavy but its worth the comfort of knowing I have 9 bullets pushing 650 lbs of energy (advertised from Winchester) at my call. I carry it in a Bianchi Accumold holster.

As for the de-cocker models. Dunno. From what I heard they are not easy to come by. I would like to get one myself someday.

Enjoy

Actually, the 1006 and the 1026 are the same size. 06 has the slide mounted safety/decocker, the 26 has a frame mounted decocker. I had a 1066 which was a nice piece. It had the nicest double action pull of any auto I've ever had.

Here's a list of the S&W 10mm models (great gun!) and units made (in case anyone wants to know):

1006- 5 inch traditional double action..................................... 26978 units made.
1026- 5 inch traditional double action with decocking lever.......... 3135 units made.
1046- 5 inch double action only................................................ 151 units made.
1066- 4-1/4 inch traditional double action................................. 5067 units made.
1076- 4-1/4 inch traditional double action with decocking lever... 13805 units made.
1086- 4-1/4 inch double action only......................................... 1660 units made.

Sounds like a good deal on a nice gun. I haven't heard anything bad about the S&W 10s. Built like a tank and great shooters.

All the Smith 1000 series are some of the strongest 10mms out there. I believe that if S&W does not start making any new 10mms, which seems probable at this point, the old ones are going to keep going up in value, like the Delta. I want to pick up another one if I ever see a good deal out there again. I got my 1076 for like $325, out the door, a few years ago and you don't see them that cheap anymore.

While we are on the subject

I have a 1006 and I love the gun, but the trigger and I don't get along.

In single action the trigger has one very noticeable stop and click before being pulled on back to actually fire. Is this common?

Usually when I go to the range it takes me a few times to get used to it. I'll pull the trigger and then go *** it didn't go bang then I remember and shoot the gun.

I have never fired a 1006 but my 1076 doesn't do that. I would imagine they have the same trigger group but I am not sure. Sounds like something may be wrong.

ENC, mine did the same thing.

I changed part #78 (trigger play spring) due to one tang being broken off. I ordered it from http://www.e-gunparts.com/ and it cost about $5. Make sure you order the rivet too if yours needs changing.

Since the change, my trigger has been flawless. No click before boom......;)

I have a 1006, and it is an absolute tank.

You got an awesome deal on yours too, between the gun, a refinish, and extra mags for mine, I have over $800 invested.

ENC,

The trigger return spring can b efixed to eliminate the click so long as the trigger return spring is not broken. Go to www.glocktalk.com and search the 10 ring for my post on how to fix it.

Big Daddy I searched several different things and couldn't find the thread you are talking about.

What is your handle over there and do you have any more info on finding the thread.
