Anyone got any experience with 110 grain bullets in .30-30 that they can relate ?

My .30-30 seems to like lighter bullets.... wondering how far I can extend that.... Plus, the velocity looks GREAT, even at starting loads.

My old 94 shoots 125 Sierra HP/FN exceptionally well, and I never got past that.

Just want something real cheap and high velocity I can play with over the summer. I dialed in my hunting load last year... It was not a particularly cheap endeavor.... I want something different this year.

The Speer 110 HP is all I load the 30-30 for anymore unless it is for the contender. I don't have the load in front of me but the powder is BL-C(2).
Good flat shooting (for the cartridge) load that is good for all around SG, plinking, varmints, defense, and wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer at a reasonable range. I don't use the 30-30 in rifle form for BG hunting so the little bullets fit the use pretty well.

I cast and load 115gr for my Marlin 336, love the load, no kick to speak of and quite a good plinking round. The mold I use is the Lyman 311008. Also, I'm going to load some M1 .30cal with the same bullet.

Cheapest, fun option is to load up some 110gr Carbine bullets, don't get Remington, they are undersized. I push them along at 2,000 fps for fun.

I tinkered with some Hornady 110gr SP, but I guess I never found a great powder for it because I could push the 125's to the same speed or faster. For example, I ran 38.0gr W748 behind the Hornady SP bullet (load one at a TIME, in the gun). Velocity was 2435fps

A MAX charge of TAC and the Sierra HPFN was driven to 2,525 fps.

Perhaps there is a better powder than W748 for light weight bullets.

Specifically, I was looking at .30 carbine

The load data for h4895 starts at 2417, and goes to 2605....I happen to have a large supply on hand I will keep everyone posted.

I played with the 110 in 30-30. Loaded 2 at a time just for fun, when bored years ago.

I load 110 grain speer hot core sp in several calibers 30-06,308win and 300 win mag they are very accurate low recoil and inexpensive. Great plinking ammo and have shot several medium sized hogs with them. If you plan on hunting with them keep to the middle ground load data although I dont see much of a group size difference from high to low. In 30/30 you could probably push them as hard as you want without splattering them but in the .300 I keep them toned down after seeing how bad the little bullets splattered in a 150 lb hog. I think they were just moving to fast.

Ok, I've found some good prices on 110's

Then I found some GREAT rpices on them....but they are plated.... I'm assuming the normal restrictions on speed applies to plated rifle bullets as does pistol bullets ?

It so, thats OK, I just got really excited there for a minute with the price....and then realized they were so cheap due to the plate -.- !

Check the prices on Speer I dont remember what I paid but it was pretty low for 100 and they were more consistant than I expected for the money.

I got some of the jacketed Carbine from hi tech & loaded with Bullseye. They didn't shoot great from my 30-06 at 100 but might be fine at 50. It was a fond learning project.

I also tried the Speer 100 grain in my Marlin Cowboy 30-30 in front of H4198 and got 2800 fps. Looking at my older Hornady Reloading Manual I show H4895 to max out at 2652fps. BTW the accuracy was fairly consistent at 100 yards slightly over an inch to 2 inches for 3 shots.

I've used the Speer 110gr Hollow Points (the flat nosed ones) for a while now in my Winchester 94. They work well, at least for a low-recoil plinker. I have not chrongraphed any of my loads, but I mostly use H335 (works good for the 170gr bullets too). I did make up a batch with IMR 4895 once just for grins. That load worked fine too. Don't remember the exact charge weight on IMR 4895, but I think I was using 35 grains of H335 with the 110 bullets...

I'm considering trying some IMR 4198 with the 110s as well. I have a can of it sitting around, bought it years ago and haven't found a use for it yet.

dont forget the 100 grn hornady short jackets.they are a ton of fun and very accurate in my rifles.
