A quick look at a Sportsmen's Outdoor Superstore used gun sale showed a police trade-in Mossburg riot gun, with a 14". It is, of course, a NFA item. It would require a stamp for an transfer, and they were asking $599. No idea what they go for these days, nor how much trouble it would be to buy one new, as a civilian.
Some of the other "police trade-ins" looked a deal more like "police confiscations", with a date and case number.
Always hard to judge about these things, but it would be a couple hours entertainment, physically rooting through such things.

The GA Highway Patrol has/had a number of them. I remember when they got them.
BTW, the barrels have a modified choke to improve the patterns with buckshot…

When my pops did law enforcement back in the 80s he had a 10in sawed off single shot. He kept it tucked next to his seat. In theory if someone walked up and he couldn’t get to his duty weapon. He could have a fighting chance with that single shot.

Our tac teams for my last employer issued the short-barreled Mossberg 590s (with the silly pistol grip that actually interfered with the action bar release).

Not a fan. One gun I actually didn't enjoy shooting in the least. It's just not fun.

Also, please -- "Mossie" and "Remie" or "Winnie" or "shotty" -- just no.
Just to be sure. It’s still ok to say Benelli?
To get back on topic. If they sell it without a barrel. Those 14 inch guns may require a different magazine tube in addition to a new barrel. Otherwise I like police trade in shotguns. I just wouldn’t want the hassle of a sbs for traveling across state lines.
