Does anyone have any loads for this combination in 357 magnum. I am looking to get 1300 fps. from a 4" barrel S&W Model 27.

I would work up with 13.0 gr of 2400, 13.8 gr will be close to max. I don't know if this will meet your velocity expectations but you will have better luck with AA#9 or H-110, I prefer AA#9 for shorter barrels.

Lyman 48th Edition lists 140 grain JHP Sierra from 12.5 to 16.5 (1343 from a 4" reciever). My load data log lists 16.5 grains of 2400 under a Remington 140 grain SJHP at 1410fps from a Ruger Blackhawk 6 1/2" barrel. You might have a look at W-296 for the velocity you are looking for. No war here. I happen to use and like Alliant 2400. And be careful...The load listed above is a maximum load and should be worked up to slowly watching for high pressure signs...

I agree, the load range I posted was for a S&W 27/28 and nothing else.

Thanks for the replies. I intend to shoot these only from the M27. I might try the W-296 later, but for now I have a LOT of 2400 to use up.

You might try 14.5 gr. 2400 and a standard small pistol primer with your 140 gr. XTP.I shot this load awhile back at the range at 50 yrds. rested and was quit surprised at it out of a 2" M66.Didn't clock it though.

I have used 14.5 grains 2400 and either a 150 Sierra or 140 XTP as my standard load in Model 19's & 66's for about 35 years now.

On occasion they will shoot 6" groups at 100 yards out of my 6" 19.

Used to do even better then that when I still could see better!
