ADRIAN, Mich. -- An 18-year-old woman who was shot by a Michigan State Police trooper following a chase in Lenawee County died Friday morning, according to police.
A sheriff's deputy tried to pull over Jessalyn Simons for a traffic violation around 5 p.m. Thursday, just outside Adrian, Mich., according to police. She led police on a five-mile chase and then hit a Michigan State Police patrol car at U.S. 223 and Wolf Creek, police said.
When a trooper tried to approach the woman's car, she drove toward the officer, Local 4 reported. Police said the trooper fired his gun, hitting the woman.
The woman was airlifted by a medical helicopter to the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo where she was listed in critical condition Thursday, according to police. She reportedly died around 7:15 a.m. Friday.
The trooper who shot the woman has reportedly been placed on administrative leave while police continue to investigate.
