    Howdy All:

I first took the shooting and reloading hook in the early '70s when I was based at Elmendorf AFB, AK and am now getting back on scene after a lengthy but unwanted hiatus. My point is, I'm not new to the gun scene, just outta' touch; so please help me here.

Any suggestions on where to buy an extra cylinder for my 1858 .44 Cal, Remmi Revolver? Nothing wrong with the old one, this revolver seems to be a fine, solid piece of work. I simply would like to have an extree for more fun time, if you catch my drift.

You would get a faster answer if you posted in the black powder section. Welcome to the forum. The 1858 cylinders can be found in two different lengths. Cabela's sells cylinders for the Pietta's. Uberti from VTI or maybe Dixie.

The new cylinder may require some hand fitting. A search in the black powder section well give you some more info.

Assuming your revolver is not an original Remington, your best bet for an extra cylinder is the manufacturer or someone selling parts made by the manufacturer. Google the name of the manufacturer and if you can come up with the importer's name, that would be your best bet. Some fitting might be necessary but an original maker's cylinder should require little if any fitting.

BTW, I strongly recommend not carrying or leaving the spare cylinder capped. If it is dropped and a cap hits something the result is the same as firing a short-barrel pistol and can be lethal.
