I have a Marlin 1894 with the 20" barrel in 44 Mag. I replaced the factory sights with an Ashley Peep set. I'm finding that I don't like the front sight and am thinking about replacing it with a fiber type front.

Does anyone know which, if any, insert from Marble, Williams or other company will fit in the factory Marlin front sight base?

Also, is the sight height measured from the base of the dovetail to the top of the rib (total height as it sits on a table), or is the height of the rib above the base listed?

thanks,
Larry

You can try a 312 M firesight from Williams if you want...

If your rifle is shooting ok measure the sight insert to double check...

The M from Williams is .340 wide, the factory sight blade is .240 wide, so the N probably fits better, provided its a 3/8" dovetails, do you know if this is the case? On my Marlin, the sight doesn't go directly into the barrel, but into a base that is then screwed onto the barrel.

Also, where do you measure the height? Is it from the top of the sight to the bottom of the dovetail, or elsewhere?

thanks,
Larry

larryw,

You may want to give the Customer Sevice line a call at www.marblearms.com

I've found them to be very helpfull in the past, in taking the guess work out of what size to order.

Good Luck...

Joe

Joe, you're not kidding there. I sent them an email last night and a reply was waiting for me this morning. Outstanding!

And to answer my question, you measure the height from the bottom of the dove tail to the top of the bead (the height as it sits on the table).
