While perusing the threat concerning the .32 acp, I learned that there was another member who owned one of the ever-popular Dreyse handguns. I know there must be hundreds of others.

I must confess that of all my handguns the Dreyse is the only one that I have not been unable to field strip. A quick search disclosed the following clip which I hope will assist the multitude of other owners:

I don't know. A search about the 1907 doesn't mention anything about any previous models. It does mention that the gun was designed by Louis Schmeisser "in the early 1900s".

Since the Dreyse looks so much like the FN, I was hoping they borrowed the FN's magazine as well. But, finding a Dreyse magazine would probably be just as hard as finding an FN magazine.

The guy in the video makes it hard. Just use a brass (non-marring) .45 ACP case to push that bushing back and release the breech from the top frame.

If you are going to do it very often make a tool out of 1/2" diameter copper tubing.

Good idea, Jim.

I tried using a shallow 1/2" socket but it apparently didn't push in deep enough. My socket idea was just after a screwdriver I was trying to use slipped and scratched the muzzle. I jumped right over four-letter words and used some with five letters!

1907 Dreyse Filed Strip - Update

I finally got the little jewel apart. For your info, a .45 acp case will not work. I had to sacrifice a 45-70. A piece of cake!

Putting it back together is a testament to patience. You have to firmly hold slide (which is hinged to the frame), keep the top of the slide open from its base, and compress the main spring and grommet thingy back on to the barrel. Then, if you're lucky thus far, you snap the whole assembly together.

If you're not lucky, the gun will slip and you will launch the end grommet and spring across the basement so that it falls among the half-finished projects you'll get to some day.

I was unlucky three times.
