1911 9mm fail to eject

My Colt series 70 9mm has always been very reliable. Now it has turned up a fail to eject where the empty case is about 1/8" back from chambered and the new round is jammed up under it. It's clean. This gun has a long link, but it's been reliable that way for years. The jams occur with Federal 115 gr round nose ammo. Only thing new is Wilson mag. How could that be a cause? Suggestions on what to look at?

Check the extractor it might be broken or worn Thats what pulls the round from chamber

If it's a new mag and the previously reliable gun suddenly jams with that particular mag, it could be that the top round in the mag is allowed to ride a bit higher. Upon extraction, the rim of the fired case may be hitting the case mouth of the top round in the mag, dislodging it from the extractor. When the slide comes forward, it picks up the next round, pushing against the fired case, creating your jam.

Change mags and see if it still does it. If not, compare the height of the top round in the Wilson mag to the one in the working mag.

Thanks David. Working it by hand, it doesn't look like it could catch the case mouth, but at speed..... Your idea sounds logical.
