I am looking at these, The Gun Digest Book of the 1911: A Complete Look at the Use, Care & Repair of the 1911 Pistol, Vol. 1 & 2...... Has anyone read them? If so would you recommend them? If not what other reading about the 1911 is good for the first time gun and 1911 owner?

Kuhnhausen, Vol I .... Vol II is not necessary unless you need more detail in the drawings and tolerances.

The Gun Digest book is good. I have an older edition and it's fun to see the "state of the art" in the 60's and 70's. I assume there are newer editions.

The Kuhnhausen book is necessary only if you plan on gunsmithing on your pistol. His books are gunsmith manuals, not "guides" or overviews.

The website Rockwell1 mentioned is excellent. Also check out the 1911 forum (just google "1911 forum").
