The 1911 gurus get pissed when I say this but; Down at the end of the counter at Specialty Sports Supply, here in Colorado Springs there's a old steel pot full of 10.00$ no name mags. I run those in a RIA and I've never had a problem W/ them.

I voted other

I tried one of those $7.99 mil-surps from Sportsman's Guide, it worked so well in my Springfield that I bought three more. Never had a problem with them, the gun doesn't seem to notice any difference between them and the Colt and Chip McCormick mags...

I voted Checkmate, but Wilsons, ProTacs, Ed Browns all do well. I have a 1911 that is a finicky feeder with a couple of bullet styles. An old Colt mag and the Checkmates I recently bought are the only mags that will feed those bullets styles in it all day long.

Mec-Gar, 8 round with base pad. Better followers than my Wilsons, and cost less. The Wilsons work OK, but I sure won't pay a premium for more of them.

Metal form are the ones for me. They are $8 each from a local dealer and they work with out fail. UI have had megar willson and chip mccormic before also megae being slightly cheaper than the rest but all worked just cost more is all.

I use ONLY GI mags, many with the pony romping on the side. 7 rounds, but they always work, and I have had problems with Chip's,ProMags, and several others.

Chip McCormick Shooting Star Classic Mags.

Brownells Listing

I have over a dozen of these and none have ever given me any trouble.

This doesn't count the ten Checkmate, four Wilson, two Chip McCormick Power Mags, two Novaks, two Metalform, or any of the other 1911 mags I have acquired over the years. Most of which have never given me any trouble either.

Sincerely,

Prof. A. Wickwire

Wilson Combat and CMC PowerMags have both been flawless for me in a "mil-spec" 1911 from Springfield Armory (the company, not the govt facility). The Wilson mags seem a little easier to load and to run a bit smoother, but the Power Mags have a metal follower that will probably last longer.

All my other handguns get Mec-Gar mags when available, I just bought the US fancy stuff for my 1911 for some reason.

All my spares are Wilson but the OEM Colt mags have always worked well for me also! :)

Wilsons all the way

Wilsons are tried and true. Everything else is either a cheap copy, or adds too many fancy things making them unreliable.

I love Tripps mags, they are great. I can't say I have had any problems with my 47d's but it just seems that the Tripps feed more smoothly.

Checkmate with dimple and hybrid lips, closest thing to JMB design I believe. I had a finicky feeder that got well with those.

I've use nothing but Chip's in an
8 round mag. Never tried anything else because I didn't need to.

Ain't tried a Tripp mag yet but anything Virgil builds is good. He used to build my guns in his garage shop and a trigger he put on my Series 70 w/ a Clark hammer in the late 70's, after 1,000's of rounds, is still 3.5 lbs.

I use Chip McCormick Shooting Stars as I like blued magazines with a blued gun. I have nine of them and not a single one has given me trouble.

I voted Wilson 47D/OX because that's pretty much all what I've used over the years. I've used Metalform and like their construction, but can't find them easily without ordering them.

Wilson mags are reliable, well built, affordable, and never caused a ding in the feed ramp when I owned an aluminum 1911. Now that my local shop is carrying Nighthawk has mags for just over $25, I may have to try those and see how they do. I'd really like to try Tripp's Cobra Mags, too.
