Took a fairly nice picture of my 1911 the other night that I'd like to share. I made the walnut grips myself.

While the flash was too much on the grips, I think I'm getting better at this photography thing!

Great looking grips for self made.

Flash is a no-no, you get those hot spots with it. A dim picture is better than a brighter one with that bright of a spot. For dim good contrast photos you can just use software to brighten the entire image. If you try to brighten yours it gets worse. For real good pictures you need soft light. Your color balance is off as well, way too yellow. Play with your aperture settings and use much slower film and a longer shutter. Should get you better color saturation. As with anything, photography takes practice.

Great 1911 and good looking grips! Looks classy! Ria seems good to go to me!

Thanks much! I wish I had a camera that I could adjust all that - My phone has a 5mp camera built in, and I can fiddle a little with exposure and whatnot, but nothing very detailed. The flash was my own mistake though - I've found that the best pictures are taken on a semi-cloudy day, with no flash, outside - Anything short of that takes a high dollar professional camera or someone with a lot better skills than I have!

Great looking 1911. I have been considering a RIA Tactical, any cons to it? It would just be another range gun with an occasional carry or two.

Thanks! I haven't noticed any cons personally - The fit and finish is acceptable (and actually this particular example has excellent fit and finish). I haven't tried to feed it my LSWC yet but it feeds everything else just fine (I use metalform mags)

Nice looking grips!

When I am taking pictures of my guns, knives, holsters or grips I only shoot them outdoors on nice days. Flashes wreak havoc on fine lines and details.

Kind of a bummer when you finish a project and are excited to get them online, then have to wait for the right time to shoot pictures. After 10 years of doing this stuff I have found nothing beats the great outdoors for an amature. (even a light box)
