I'm a solid convert to a solid black rear sight (configuration optional) and a gold bead front sight with the bead mounted at the very top of the post, flush with the top. Works well in all but near or completely dark. Don't do much shooting under those circumstances and if I did, it would be with a flashlight. Works especially well at the indoor range. The bead can be mounted in the existing front sight post. So far I've converted three of the 1911 fleet over with more to come.

Skipsan, kindly share a picture. Sounds like a nice sight config.

Not a good pic but maybe you can get the idea. I chose the Novak lo-mount rear sight--it fit the g.i. dovetail in the slide. I think I'd choose something more conventional looking as the Novak kinda "perches" on top of the slide.

I had a LB modified by the same smith and he used a larger bead--works even better. I also had a semi-custom pistol built with the same thing.

I'm a worse picture taker than shooter if that's possible. Search "gold bead sight" on this and other 1911 forums and I think you'll find some favorable write-ups and better pics.

    Simple solution

my suggestion is for you to try glow-on.com, I'm the developer.
$13.31 gets you a single vial, some stick onjs for your tv remote, light switches and such and if you are dexterous enough a squared u rear sight to make an easy target acquisition.
Here is a 1911 with glow-on super phosphorescent pigment:

Here is something different with a small piece of glow-on self adhesive we created this rear sight on a keltec pf9

The pigment is so resilient you can put it on plain iron sights like this one,
One plus is that the pigment is heat activated too so at the range after 4 or 5 shots the glow will be very evident

    Good luck, Gatopardo

Ps if anyone have a question just pm me, I like to make friends

Heinie Ledge solid black rear. Dawson .090 thin fibre optic front sight.

    Thinner front sights help alot.

I haven't got 10-8 rears for all of mine yet, but the tritium front/plain rear is my favorite configuration.

I have the springfield loaded 1911 but mine have the night sights. Like you my vision is not great at close range and this seem to have no effect. I like them.
