I have a Kimber Target Custom II with adj target sights. I know the area around the rear sight is milled different than most and was wandering if anyone made night sights as a direct replacement. I would prefer the meprolight.

Anyone have any updates on this? I have a Kimber Gold Match that I'd like to find combat-worthy (read: durable) 3-dot night sights for but all I can find are Heinie Straight-8's.

Are those champions compatible with the Gold Match and do those and/or the adjustable Meprolights hold up to rugged use?

Most target-sighted 1911 pistols have a "BoMar" rear sight cut in the slide. Most combat-sighted 1911 pistols have a "Novak" rear sight cut. While you can get target-sight blades with tritium inserts OR you can get combat sights that adjust, you still can't make a Novak sight fit a BoMar cut or vice-versa (without welding & re-cutting). I've often wondered why no one (to my knowledge) makes a tough, fixed night-sight made to fit in a BoMar cut. It combat situations, clearing a jam with a fast, overhand rack of the slide over sharp, square target can leave you a NASTY gash across your palm. Don't ask me how I know.

*In this context, "BoMar" and "Novak" are generic terms, not brand names.

Unfortunately, Kimber has Kimber sight cuts; adjustable and fixed different from each other and from other makes.

Champion makes a Bomar-oid adjustable night sight to replace Kimber adjustable.
Heinie and Yost make fixed night sights to replace Kimber fixed.

Probably some others, but that is what I could find in the Brownells 1911 supplement.

Does Kimber not make a "night-sight" (tritium inserted) blade for their Target Sights? And, my mistake, I didn't know both the fixed & adjustable rear sight cuts on Kimber 1911s were unique only Kimber. Guess they want to keep you close to home huh?

Kimber (Meprolight) makes Target Adjustable night sights...they come standard on the Target Eclipse. They are a bar-dot system.

The Kimber Custom Shop charges $170 for the sight set and $30 to install them.

I am very happy with my DawsonPrecision.com target sights on my Kimber Stainless II. You might look at their night sights cut specifically for Kimber dove tails.

Have fun getting your original sights out!

Dovetails won't fit in the Kimber Adjustable notch, though... maybe the standard Kimber notches, but the Adjustable ones are a different animal. Novak doesn't make any and I e-mailed Yost and they said they don't make any either. Champion and Meprolight are the only two I can find and I don't know if either one is durable enough for a carry/duty weapon...
