Looking for some affordable smooth rosewood (darkwood) style grips with maybe a nice glossy finish. looking around a $20-30 range. been looking on the hogues website but idk. wants ya'll opinion on it.

oh and I plan to put a Pearce finger groove front strap on it when I find the grips i like. thanks for any input

Molleman, Recently found this site and prices seem to be quite reasonable.
Altamont grips...at... Altamontco.com

Try Altamont Grips. They run about $45 but are some of the nicest I've seen.

The Brownells Navidrex "Philipine Mahogany" are the best deal I've seen, $18 for checkered. Color and checkering vary from ok to gorgeous. If you must have smooth, they have Ahrends wood for about $32, I think. But their shipping is high.

Molleman,

You can visit this site http://www.1911grips.ecrater.com This guy makes wood grips from natural exotic woods and Dymondwood. Each pair of grips is modeled on two different Colt 1911 Government Model 45s. so you can see the fit on Stainless and or Blued. $35.00 to $45.00 all hand made, $5.00 shipping in U.S.

Good Luck to you

Check out eBay member: shootists
I won an auction of theirs for some quilted pink ivory wood grips (under $18 shipped);they arrived quickly and are of good quality:

The finish is not real glossy (satin), but a few coats of the tung oil/Tru-oil would change that.
They have several dark wood grips (rosewood or walnut) on auction now.
Regards,
Greg

+1 on ebay. I think mine came from gungripguys. australian myrtle. they were just gorgeous. even batter after I thinned them down and refinished them. I think they cost 25 bucks. search for "1911 name of the wood" or just "1911 burl"
