I'm currently the owner of a Kimber Pro Carry II in .45. I was hoping to add another 1911, but in 9mm flavor. I know Kimber makes a few (including the Pro Carry II) in 9mm, but was curious about other makes out there.

I know Springfield has the EMP. I have seen STI's guns, but have not heard much about them. What I have heard has been favorable, but was curious as to what others have heard or may have experienced. My preference would be something that is the same size as the Pro Carry II (4" barrel, fullsize frame) as opposed to a Commander size, but I wouldn't let that stop me when it came to a decision. It just means I'm ordering another Milt Sparks VM2 for it. :)

I know I have a lot of options for 9mm, but I like my guns to be consistent so when I train with one, the same methods apply for each. Also, spousal requirements dictate a safety device that I have to deactivate, hence why I'm using a 1911. I know the arguments about the other safety mechanisms in things like Glocks and such, but if she can't see a lever or something that has to be flipped or pressed to engage, she's a no-go on it. Period. End of debate. Done. I've learned arguing doesn't help my case. But, fortunately, I love the 1911. :) So it isn't a huge issue.

The Pro Carry II is a 4" barrel with fullsize frame. I know STI has the Guardian, Rogue, and several others. Kimber, besides the PC II, has the Aegis and several Pro-sized 9mm's out there. I like SA's EMP, but would prefer the 4" barrel if possible (easier to conceal than the 5", though the 5" is doable).

I was hoping somebody would have STI experience as their 9mm's look rather nice and from the limited info I've heard, are quite good/accurate.

STI Guardian: (4" barrel)

STI Escort (3" barrel)

The sti 9mm guns should be the same as the 38 super guns. I do not own a sti 38 super but I have many friends that do. Some have more than 1 in 38 super. All Excellent guns and work every time.

Oh I know Kimber makes several 9mm's including the Aegis line, the Pro Carry II and the Ultra Carry II. :)

Since I already have the PC II in .45, I know the Kimbers would work well for me. I was thinking about expanding the number of manufacturers in my safe. If Kimber looks like the best way to go, I know I'll end up with a fine 9mm, but was curious about other 9mm offerings in 1911. :)

Wilson will build their four-inch and five-inch guns in 9x19. A bit pricey, but very nice. Les Baer also offers 9x19 in the five-inch guns. Not sure if offered in the 4.25" guns. I believe so as they offer the .38 Super in a 4.25" gun, and the general rule is it is available in 9x19 if they offer it in .38 Super.
