1937 Turkish Mauser / reworked Gew 98

I got this one from Jolar's Armory in PA while on a road trip in 2010.

This one is a reworked WWI German Gew 98. It has a nice Walnut stock and no cracks.




The crest is very nice, but if you look close you can still see a little of the German crest that was not completly scrubed off.








It is non matching, like most Turks.


You just got to love those old German markings.


It also has aa Gew 98 barrel band.




Carving on the butt.

I reall like this rifle.

Another great example of the diverse Turk armament program used. The standard length action was machined back one thread for the flanged handguard, essentially shortening the amount of threads in the receiver. I've not heard of any issues using that procedure.
These were of course LR threads in the excellent German action, whereas the Turks utilized SR threads in their contract and Turk made actions.
