I've been eyeing a 35 Whelen in very good condition 90-95%, what would be a fair price on a rifle like this? Thanks.

i sold one in a bk syn stock for 450.00 to a friend. yours may be worth more 550-600 with out a box and papers. eastbank.

Any rifle on any given day is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, no more and no less. Me? If I wanted that rifle I would have no problem going $700 maybe more. Matter of fact if the rifle were a 1994: 6.5x55mm Swedish or a 2005: .308 Win I would go $700 maybe more in a heartbeat. I have no interest in the 35 Whelen so I wouldn't even bother making an offer. If you want the gun you decide a fair offer based on a look around and see what those who want them are paying.

While researching I see you already have it listed on Gunbroker. You already have a bid that I'd consider a fair price and I think it will go for more. I wouldn't let it go for any less than the current bid unless I really needed the money. The Classic 700's are one of the nicer versions and the 35 Whelen is one of the more rare calibers.

It is also rare for a reason. Not many want it, but those who do will pay a premium. I think it'll go over $700. I see someone has one in 350 RM listed at almost $1,500 with no bids. It isn't worth nearly that.

Isn't the buy it now $674? Almost 5 days out its already almost $600... Someone is going to buy it before the auction is over. It looks like it's in nice shape, if you really want it, you might just want to go ahead and buy it.

I met the reserve, so now the buy it now function is disabled. Have to wait it out. Thanks for the thoughts guys!

Ah, I didn't see the "was" and assumed it said "buy it now price is". I don't guess I've ever bid on anything with a reserve and buy it now price.

I have a 1988 Remington 700 Classic .35 Whelen and love it. I don't remember how much I payed for it. For a full sized 700 they are fairly light...maybe from the big hole in the barrel! I eventually put a pre-fit Limbsaver recoil pad on mine. Got some recoil!

Hope you get it, you'll like it!

Beautiful rifle C&L! What scope is that? Im thinking of getting a VX3 2.5-8 if I end up winning it. How is accuracy?

It's a Leupold Vari-X lll 2.5-8x...close to what you but the VX3 is newer and more up to date with coatings. Mine is same vintage as the rifle.

Shoots great, accuracy is easy 1" group at 100 yards from a rest. I've never shot any factory ammo in it, hand loads only...Nosler Ballistic Tips, Barnes TSX, & Hornady Inter-Loc.

I have the VX3 2.5-8x36 on my 375H&H and it is a great scope. Perfect power range for the hunting I do and has held zero even after some stout 375 loads and being dropped/ tossed when I fell hunting. I center punched a dinner plate sized rock at 535y according to the range finder on 2.5x. Great scope, highly recommend it.

Wonderful rifle and caliber! I bought my first one back in late '94 used for $500, a consignment rifle. I had it reamed to the Ackley Improved and took it to south Africa in '95. I used the old 250X at 2600 and killed zebra, hartebeest, Wildebeast, Gemsbuck and Kudu with it. I later ruined that rifle messing around with it. then I played with other mediums; .375 H&H, 9.3x62., several kinds of 338s. I enjoyed them all but kept wanting another Classic in 35 Whelen. I bought another used one in '99 for $600. I had this one blueprinted, reamed to the Ackley ( love it, love it!) and took it back to South Africa in 2002 but used the 200X at 2970fps. I got the same results as I did with the 250X! I killed a Black Wildebeast at 347yds with, and a zebra at 250yds. I still have it. I killed a Eurasian sow with it in MI and the 310 Woodleigh. It is my all time favorite rifle. I no longer own a 300 mag, 338 mag, nor 375 or 9.3x62. I found that out to 200-250yds I could not tell the difference between my Whelen and any of those other magnums! I kid you not. If you are not as handloader looney as I am, don't get it reamed to the Ackley, its fine as is. If you want a bit more oomph, Ackley is the one. Mine now sits in a Brown Precision High Country synthetic, I always use a Leupold 1.5x5 on it. Good luck to you Pard!

Back in the mid 1980s, I pre-ordered a 700 Classic in .350 RM and a .257R prior to their release in their consecutive years, that is. The .350 is a 22" barrel lightweight and one of the two most accurate rifles I've ever owned - 1/2" with handloads. I went on to kill lots of deer with that fine rifle and it still looks brand new and pristine. The .257R is a 24" beauty with the best factory trigger I ever tried. It killed lots of deer as well and is also as pristine as the day I received it. It's not a lightweight nor is it anywhere near as accurate as the .350. It is, however, a wonderful long range shooter, that with 100 grain handloads gives over 3200 fps. Best accuracy is only about an inch and change but that's more than good enough for 300+ yards.

The few months of waiting for each were tough but when received, they were both more than worth the wait. Can't remember what I paid for them but it was very fair considering my name was added to a waiting list of "already reserved". I have no idea what they are worth now, if I was interested in selling which I absolutely am not. The .257 barrel is a heavy sporting barrel and not the least "whippy".

I have two of those. One is in .300 Savage and is still NIB and the other is a .300 H&H. THey are the nicest looking '700s I have ever seen and the Classics are the only 700s I would buy.

My .300 H&H is worth over $800. The $300 Savage is about $650. My guess is the Whelen would be much closer to the H&H. I can tell you I bid on one in .250 Savage and lost it after it passed $850

i own five classic remingtons all new with four in the boxs, one,300win mag- two,280rm,- three 375 H&H mag,- four 6.5x55 in boxes new- five, a 221 fireball new with no box. eastbank.
