I just stopped by my local Gander Mountain and checked out the Taurus 738 TCP they had on sale for $199. The trigger was decent (long but smooth) and the fit and finish looked very nice (actually better than my KT PF9). Since I done own a micro .380, the TCP would fill a niche in my collection. My problem is that I'm worried about Tauruses "hit or miss" history of QC. Any input from owners would be greatly appreciated.

I paid a little more for mine a while back. It was fine with brass cased ammo but useless with steel cased so I consider it having small operating margins.

I keep mine in my pocket while doing yard work, I've no worries about it going through one mag of brass cased JHP ammo. I got it for the low price and stainless slide as I knew it'd see more sweat than actual use.

    yup

I would not mind a 2 shot .45 derringer in lieu of a mouse gun.

But I got it from a friend, I did not want to turn it down KNOWING that he might want it back :D

So you trust KT but you're worried about Taurus?

Taurus has better designs, much higher build quality, and their QC is at least equal.

TaurusArmed.Net might be a good place for you to check out and see what others have said about it. I don't have one personally but at that price, I don't think I would be to concerned about it and give it a try if you really wanted to.

Should you trust it? yes. I paid more for mine as they went on sale about 6 months later but... It feeds and fires everything I put in it, including some reloads using 105 gr lead semi wadcutters made for a 38 Special and sized down.

Now I figure any mouse gun that will feed semi wadcutters without an problem should be a good buy.

I looked at Kt, Ruger, S&W, All of them. All nice guns however the Taurus had the best feeling trigger and the one that you had to pull back the shortest distance. Recoil is not bad at all and the trigger, on mine at least, is a whole lot smoother than any of the others

One of my co-workers that I occasionally shoot with picked one up a couple of months ago. He likes his a lot and has shoved a variety of ammo through it including steel cased Herters (Cablea's). He claims it is reliable.....I've seen a few targets and it is certainly minute of bad guy at a reasonable distance.

I bought mine at Buds a while back for the same price. For that price it only came with 1 mag. I think the slide is blue. At first it wouldn't feed Winchester White box, but after 50 rounds of ball ammo it started eating the WWB too. Was really impressed wit the accuracy at 7yds. Non existent sights as you know, but the trigger on mine is pretty good. It carries very well in my jeans pocket in a Desantis holster.

I bought a TCP and enjoyed shooting it. It was accurate and ate everything I fed it. I was content with it until the slide blew apart. It was with Winchester white box ammo, nothing high powered. A friend wanted to try the gun out and I handed it to him with about half a magazine full. He fired the gun once and the front half of the slide flew forward while the rear half flew into his face cracking a tooth. Upon inspection we could see the slide broke in two right at the front edge of the ejection port. I know it was a fluke, probably no one else has had such an occurance, at least they didn't when I talked to Taurus. Taurus offered to replace the pistol or give me just about any other pistol they make. In the end I got a refund and bought an LCP which has never failed to work right. As I said I think the problem was a fault in the metal, I really liked the pistol but wouldn't have felt as comfortable with a replacement TCP even though I know it wouldn't happen again. Just one of those psychological things.

The TCP is second in my stable of pocket 380 pistols with the P238 at number one.

I've got one, shoot only somewhat underpowered hand loads, works great, fun to shoot (underpowered!) and carry factory in jeans pocket in simple holster. Almost undetectable. You must let the trigger go all the forward to reset. Love it

I wouldn't spend $99 on a Taurus...just don't trust 'em and wouldn't want to send my gun out-of-country for warrant repair if needed

i got one for $199 from the Sportsman’s Warehouse in December. IMHO the best deal in pocket 380s. No failures on mine, good egros, and a slide lock back

But it if you can afford to throw away $199.00. Taurus' customer services is abysmal. If it doesn't work right I would rather throw it away than send it back to those people.

Keltecs' customer service is amazing. I've had nothing but great experiences with them and their products.

Your a little behind on Taurus since the TCP is made in the US and serviced in the Good Old US.

One of the two magazines mine came with would not lock the slide back on the last round so I called customer service and had a new one in four days.

I doubt you can find better service than that.

Yeah, you don't have to send it out of the country, Taurus will fail or refuse to fix it right here in the good ol USA.

Would you be willing to drop $200 on the ponies at the track? Or in a casino?

    If so, go for it.

    If not, don't.

I had one, and it was great. Only reason I sold it as that I liked the sights on the Bodyguard better, and needed the funds to pay for it.

For $100 more you get the LCP. "Don't chance yer hide on Taurri" my great grandpappy used to say.

Taurus makes a descent gun, its their poor C.S. when you need it fixed that gives them a bad rap.
