Picked up 2 new toys this past week. Both should be excellent shooters. Totally lucked out on the Ruger 1911...I woke up 2 Thursdays ago before heading off to work and refreshed my page on GunsAmerica.com for Ruger 45's...a few seconds later,..up she popped !! :what:!! The price was as surprising as the gun being available itself. So I thought about it for about 30 seconds and knew it wouldn't last until noon on there so I went ahead & got it. Then the following day I went into the one of the few LGS I deal with to check on a RRA I had on order and saw the Sig 220 sittin in the case. Gun was on consignment from the owners friend and he said it had no more than 100 rounds through it. Picked it up and I knew I was in trouble...shaking my head I knew I had to get it, its narrower than a 1911 and the balance is amazing. So I asked him if the guy would be willing to knock off $75 so he called and I heard the guy say....wellllll.......ok. A few fist pumps later I walked out with her too. I love me some nice .45s!

First impressions of the Ruger are how well its fitted together. Its right up there in fit and finish with many $1200-$1300 1911s that I've handled. The over travel stop is a nice trigger feature and I have it adjusted perfectly to roughly 1/16th of an inch. The trigger breaks clean at 4.3lbs with no slop or creep as it should. Id put it at a 9.5 out of a 10. The finish is a little different than what I'm used to as the stainless bead blast they've done on it is just ever so slightly rough to the touch. The Sig on the other hand is a smooth stainless.I love the straight mainspring housing on it as well. Never really cared for the standard hump on the mil spec versions. I also love the the fact that it doesn't have those damned front end serrations!!! The Novak sights are very nice as well. Like many have said, this 1911 has everything you need and nothing you don't. Its a keeper. The more I fondle it the more I like its classic and modern blend of style and features. IMO its one of the most photogenic 45s ever too.

The Sig is a different animal, its a bigger overall gun to start off. The grip it noticeably narrow and I hate to say it but IMO it feels better in my hand than the Ruger. I know, I know..thats blasphemy to you 1911 lovers. But at least its an all metal gun and not a glock..:p A more rounded grip angle lends to that Im sure. The low profile flush mount aluminum side plates have the perfect amount of grip without tearing your hands up. The gun points and balances sooooooo very well. I cant stop aiming it in the basement. It wears sturdy target sights with a night front sight and fully adjustable rear leaf. 2-8 round mags with a window for each round which I really like. The gun as zero movement/play in the barrel when in full battery. On the other hand the Ruger has the slightest amount of play. The trigger on the Sig is a nicer DA/SA than compared to my 226 enhanced elite. Its got the SRT trigger as well. Its got an very small amount of creep in SA but Im sure that can be remedied with by smith. Id rate the trigger at about an 8 out of a 10. Ever since I saw the results from the factory prototype 8 round group being .68 inches at 20 yds Ive never been able to get this one out of my head.

I think I have a problem....
