Not having purchased shotgun shells in ages, and those having been 12 ga and my cost per box was at that time well under $5 a box, what was 20 gauge shells, 25 to a box, historically prior to this artificial shortage, what was the peak, and what’s a reasonable price to have to pay?

Here, 20 and 12 are same price.
Pre-DEMpanic, dove loads were $5.45. Caught a preseason sale of $49.90 case.
Then, stupid pricing, $1 a round or more.
    Last week, $7.50 per box.

Buckshot and slugs were as high as $5 a shot.
    and idiots were paying it.

Just picked up a case of 12ga target loads $99.99. Same store 2 years ago it was $59.99 on sale. They always charged the same for 20ga and 12ga. A month ago I paid $8.85 a box for target loads. In the past it was $5.65. I hate paying that much but it’s never on the shelf.

Where do you think the price is going? $5 a box seems about right but may be wishful thinking.

I think this situation will play out like gas a few years ago. It’ll come down in price but never down to what it was. Who knows, it might be cheaper to reload again.

Can you find the stuff you need to reload now?

@$8 for 'promo' loads, $11-14 for AA and STS (if they start the line on those-so far just Gun Clubs coming) $15-18 for pheasant loads, $20-25 for steel duck & goose loads, over $25 for other non-toxic loads. They should settle in around these prices.

Here and there. But they aren't cheap either. Primers are the chokepoint still. The only ones available are Cheddite, and some RIO's have hit the market recently.

I think the last sub gauge shells, aka 20 ga or 28 ga, I bought were in the $13-$15 a box range when buying at case quantities but frankly, I do not remember exactly. I've well stocked for myn skeet shooting but I've curtailed it some so that I do not consume the supply too quickly.

I enjoy reloading so I buy premium ammunition whose hulls reload more time than the cheap "Gun Club" ammunition.

Unfortunately, in today's environment, getting components is a problem especially primers.

Currently, I'm shooting off some 7/8 oz 12 ga ammunition that I loaded 10 years ago or so.

Actually, Remington Gun Clubs reload as many times as STS's do. I currently load brass based hulls, though I've loaded Gun Clubs before. My Ljutic doesn't like them, so they go into the 1100 and 870.

Haven't seen primers available except a local gun store has some STS for primers for $15 per hundred. Followed and online local auction that a guy had two cases of 5000 STS primers new in cartons , they went for $950 for one case, and $925 for the other. Bags of shot were going for $70. I've pretty much quit shooting until I can replace what I consume and I have a few thousand primers left.

    Dumb feeds stupid prices.
I bought a 410, 28 and a 20ga reloader, 5 years ago, with new hulls, wads, 5 bags of shot, etc. I just watch and smile…..

I paid $85 for a flat of 20 gauge Fiocci target loads last June. I think that would be a good price now.
