Got this nice Colorado muley last monday! 60 yard shot, 40 yard recovery. Shooting a Traditions St.Louis Hawken kit gun I built a few years ago. 80gr 2fg Gearhart - Owen black powder, .020" patch and .490 round ball. The blood trail was excellent! So good, my girl friend ( her first time going on a hunt ) picked up the blood trail and tracked it for me.

Very nice! Hats off to you mr.frontiergander, i really dig that you even dress in the traditional fashion. Keep them pics comming!

As an Eastern whitetail hunter It’s strange to see such a nice buck in the “velvet” or summer stage of antler growth. Our Maine or Rhode Island bucks have long since rubbed that away by the time deer gun season rolls around.

Out of all the bucks I saw this year, only one had shed his velvet. We're heading to New Mexico next and we'll run into the same thing over there. We have late shedders and so it takes them longer. Plus its still in the 80s and 90s.

normally they can freeze dry it or inject it with formaldehyde. I just cut a skull cap and then salted the bone and around the base of the antlers. It will hang in the shop from now, until winter. Once everything dries out nicely, I'll put it on the wall.
