Hello friends, welcome to the battle rifle 10 shot challenge. I think this might be a interesting thread lol. It won't end the debate on what is the best battle rifle but let's see some scores and have some fun shooting some very fun rifles.

THE RULES
You will fire 10 shots onto the approved target listed which for this challenge will be a SR-1 100 yd target. Scoring will be scored by adding up the score for all 10 shots. A shot touching a line counts as the next numbering up. For instance if a shot touches the line separating the 7 and 8 the score is a 8. A X counts as 10 points.

You can download the target and make copies online although however I downloaded it on a standard printer paper 8.5 x 11 inch paper from a download link provided below (thanks random) and it comes out the exact same size as a bought SR-1 target as far as bulls eye repair targets. You may use any color target or put a sticker in the center X circle if you want to help aiming as long as it fits correct. Whatever SR-1 target you get it has to have a X ring. Of course you can buy SR-1 targets also the full size will probably be better for the standing freehand classes.

I personally get mine from national target company, SR-1 full size and repair center targets.

You may submit as many targets as you wish provided it was shot with a different firearm. One target submission per firearm is allowed within the class . You can take as many tries that you want BEFORE you post your target but only post the target you want to submit for the final submission to the challenge.

The cutoff date for submissions is July 31 2019

Please submit targets even if you don't think they'll win as the information on how well what shoots may be valuable to other members

Good luck and good shooting

You must be refering to the AR-15 / M-16? If so no, not considered a "battle rifle". Battle rifle by definition is a full size cartridge military "style" rifle. AR-15 and such can be a upcoming challenge but we already know that 5.56mm .223 AR-15 would dominate scores when compared more than likely.

Also, 7.62x39mm , not a "battle rifle cartridge which there can be a upcoming challenge for it and similar intermediate cartridges also like 300 blackout or .30 carbine.

HOWEVER if I left out a full fledged battle rifle from the list let me know and we will edit the thread.

I wish I had regular access to a good 100-yard range. I'm going to really try to get out with my Garands for this. I might even update my prescription. Good a reason as any!

Curious about one thing.

Why allow the 6.5 creedmore??

It doesnt seem to fit...its not historical, as far as I know, its not issued by any military.

Obviously its your contest and your rules, just curious

If a 6.5 AR-10 is allowed, how about a 6 creed AR-10?

We will amend the challenge for this, given that 6.5 Creedmoor is in limited use by the military, given that 6mm Creedmoor is basically the same as 6.5 as far as cartridge, and given the fact that while rather rare there are M1A and FAL which are battle rifles made for .243 Winchester, and there have been some Garand made in .270 Winchester they are allowed.

Amended as follows is allowed,
AR is 6mm Creedmoor
M1A or FAL in .243 Winchester
M1 Garand in .270 Winchester

I'm not amending any other cartridges after this.

Seems to me the west side of Utah Lake is still part of “Happy Valley”. Still lots of open desert suitable for shooting at much longer distances than 100 yds. ;)

Unless you’re referring to Cache Valley, which has also been given the Happy Valley moniker at times. In which case the Hunter Ed Center west of Logan has a nice 100-yd range. Or at least it did. Haven’t been there in a while.

Does “standing freehand” mean totally unsupported? Or is a sling allowed?

Not that I own anything suitable for this challenge, but the addidtion or disallowance of a sling would make a big difference. Best to specify and not make people assume one way or the other.

And maybe this will give me an excuse to buy an AR10 or FAL.

A sling is allowed in standing classes just other that standing with no rests

By the way my submissions will be targets I did over the last 2 to 3 months I had planned this challenge for a while and did my targets before it got too hot outside it has been 95 degrees for over two weeks now so I did my targets knowing when summer hit I wouldn't want to endure the Florida heat. My last targets I did last Sunday.

If anyone feels this is inappropriate I'll disqualify myself from being able to win and just submit targets for information sake.

I see no problem with this - and near the end I always wish I had more time, so.....

LK
Class 3 100 yds rested
Score 87-1X
SVT-40
Privi Partisan 150 gr SP ammo

When I started it was shooting so right almost off paper, I tapped and tapped the front sight but was running low on ammo to be able to do a 10 shot volley so I stopped where you see and just did 10 shots of PP ammo. Could have been a better score if I moved the sight a little more to the left. Tula 148 gr shot wider group, decided not to try S&B 180 gr heavy ammo in it. The X-ring shot was a flyer lol.

Sounds fun, I've been messing with M1A of late and was planning on practicing standing w/sling this summer anyway, so I'll give it a shot, maybe
