I have to check again. I added a crimp to the load since I had a chance to chronograph it.

Without the crimp I was getting 2470 average out of my 18" bbl.

I think a longer barrel would help quite a bit with the speed, anf the noise for that matter :D.

The goal is to switch over to Maker HV-Rex copper projectiles (for hunting) once I get my loading issues straightened out for this bad boy.

Pretty good I've thought about doing one maybe on a 99 jap I have but I have my Siamese mauser in 45-70 I like messing with.

I'd love to have a 45-70 one day

I'm running the .45 Raptor because it is on the legal list for the lower part of Michigan, and it had the best ballistics. Fun round. But the high end loads are felt every time the trigger is pulled! This thing is LOUD too. I wear earplugs under my muffs with this one.

The 45-70 is fun to make different loads and experiment with, I loaded up some 45cal sabot bullets ment for 45cal muzzleloader one day to try I was amazed how well they shot at 50 yards. I was keeping them in the same hole and they seemed to me moving petty fast, think it was 15gr of trail boss and a crimp to hold the sabot in the case since they are about .450-.452 ish even went through a 10" 4 x4 of pine.

The raptor looks fun to and makes some good numbers. I've loaded the 45-70 super hot before I was in the 2300 range with 400gr A-frames. Trapdoor loads are plenty tho.

The 165 SGK load got the job done this morning

Shot my first deer this year with a Federal 165 Game King factory load in 30-06. It was pretty much a bang flop. I picked up a couple of boxes of bullets for load development for my 308 since I was using a friends rifle on this hunt. I was very impressed with results and the meat that it put in the freezer.

Was that the hollow point, or soft point GameKing? I've heard the hollow points sometimes don't open up so well and can be pretty tough compared to the soft point.

Of course, I've got a bunch of the hollow points and a load worked up for my 308win.

I habe some 165 gk I want to try some day and see if they open funny, tho it maybe a while until I shoot a deer with a 30 cal. Maybe do some wet paper someday.

I could probably push them fast enough in my 300wm, but I'm on the fence of keeping it or not.

It's nice, but selling it would let me restock my 308 and make it *really* nice.
