Took my grandson back to Upstate New York for two weeks of squirrel hunting and a week of trapping. He harvested a bunch of squirrel and we did ok on trapping. My oldest son trapped a Fisher. I tagged along with my brother and we harvested two fishers and a red fox. I will post a picture of my sons Fisher in another post.
Last night. 30-06 at 280 yards 165g SGK. DRT. Halloween. 30-06 180g Nosler Partition. Just over 300 yards across a canyon. Livingston MT area. Rolled down the hill/mountain and hit the tree. My son with his, shot about 3 minutes later. 300 WM 165g TTSX. About 320 yards. It was a great time. Don't think I could have scripted it to be any better.

Kind of a “before snd after” of this year’s hunt. I hunt my own property, and actually can see my house from one stand. Hadn’t seen this guy at all all summer long, and he showed up on the game camera in a couple different spots where I have stands. Saturday morning I got it done!
No pictures from this year yet, went pheasant hunting two weeks ago and went 0 for 4. I like the Ithaca 66, Highland Lofts, good gun to start a kid out on! That's one proud young man, and a proud grandpa, too!
My 8 point from October 29th. Savage 10 fp-sr/Griffin recce 7 suppressor .308 win with 165 SGK soft points. The bullet(what was left of it) was found in the shoulder on the off side. He never even twitched. There was 71 grains left in the bullet with 55 of that being the jacket.
The Ithaca 66 is a great starter gun for kids. I buy them when the price is right. I sol my brother the 12 gauge with rifle sights a 410 with a plain barrel. And he had a plain barrel 20 gauge he got for Christmas 52 or 53 years ago. I have three 410s and three 20 gauges. A set for myself and two sets for my two grandsons. The 20 gauge Ithaca 66 I use has a ventilated rib barrel I bought about 45 years ago. I seen one other one and it brought $750. Way to much for what it is. I also have a bunch of the Ithaca model 49 22-lr single shots. Sold one to my brother and must have at least four more. I'd like to get a nice older Ithaca model 37 in 20 gauge this spring.
The 49's are a great starter gun for kids also; I rebuilt 2 of them for my best friend, and he let me borrow them for 4-H Shooting Sports; they were chosen first by kids who didn't have their own guns, over the club's Marlin 15Y bolt actions. I'm partial to Ithacas: My 37. @ 70's early 80's. I had another 12 ga. 37 some years ago, but I gave it to a friend for a wedding present. My Ithaca 4E SBT. 1926. And my oldest Ithaca, by far: The grandfather clock my Great-great Grandfather, whom I'm named after, (yes, his name was entropy also- )brought from Maine to Minnesota in 1855.

Last Friday we were October 29th we were up in Ithaca. Took my grandson to the Earth museum and to toncanauck falls and buttermilk falls then on up to Sidney for prime rib diner. I really like the older Ithaca guns.
I haven’t had a chance to get in the woods yet but I have a trip planned in a few weeks. Until then I’ll live vicariously though all of your experiences and pictures
Nothing to hang on the wall, but he needed to be culled and now he's meat in the freezer. Taken with CVA Wolf and 250gr Power Belt at about 40yds.
Gave up on bowhunting for the year, and went back to my favorite type of hunting, duck hunting. Had a good solo walk in hunt Tuesday and a great "take a veteran hunting on veterans day" hunt with my good friend/ hunting buddy and retired marine Jim today.
A fat 4-point sacrificed himself at sundown today. The Ruger #1, .270 Winchester, 150 grain Remington Core-Lokt once again left nothing to be desired. You are seeing the exit in this view. He was quartering towards me when the bullet hit his left shoulder, taking out the tops of both lungs. The abdomen was clean. Got him to the processing cooler 2 1/2 hours after he went down. Should be a good table trophy!
#1 son filled an archery permit yesterday evening. Our work has kept us from bowhunting the early rut for several years. #1 son was able to spend some time in one of our most productive deer stands on 11/13/21 and connected with this nice 9pt.
