I saw a couple of these on gunbroker and immediately wanted one. My question was 1). Has anyone used these and do they work good? 2). I haven't found a single one under 70 dollars. Are these rare because they were made around the time the SK's were made?

I would much rather have this than the AK mag considering they can be pretty toublesome.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

I think I may have a Chi-com 20 laying around. I'll dig through the archives this weekend. As many on THR can attest, I have a penchant for sending stuff I don't need out for free. BTW, deputyvaughn let me know how that AR mount worked for you!

That's slightly different, the one I have has a big five pointed star stamped on the side.

I've got one just like the pictured one. I bought it for cheap at a gun show some years back.

Maybe I just got a crappy one. I have never been able to get the silly thing to fit right on my SKS. The quality is nowhere near as good as the original 10 round magazine.

If I could find a good one, I'd be interested.

The Chinese fixed mags with the large star on the side is the only one that works well in SKS. They are difficult to find, so if you have the opportunity to purchase one, I'd jump on that deal.

I have one of them in my gun cabinet. I'll have to look it up and see what markings are on it. I don't have the SKS anymore.

:D I have the 20 round mag from Tapco & i have put 1000 round through it this past weekend & i can say it works perfect.

It was only $20

RUBZERK, that looks like the AK conversion mag. This is the fixed mag that is almost an exact mirror of the original SK mag except it holds 20 rds.

Maybe it's just an AK style mag I've never seen though.

I have a 20 round fixed NORINCO magazine on a SKS NORINCO rifle, and it's been 100 percent reliable through several thousands of rounds.

But bear in mind, that Norinco manufactured these magazines to fit their specific rifles.

I've got a large box full of all the different mags I've tried over the years. The only 20 round fixed mag that is known to be reliable is the Chinese model with the star stamped on it. They used to be a dime a dozen in the old days. They usually require some hand fitting to the gun, but that's just a matter of paying close attention to how the shell follower or your factory mag fits in the magazine cutout and duplicating that fit on the red star mag. Takes a couple minutes with a file or Dremel tool. Sometimes you get lucky and they just drop right in.

On the other hand, the Tapco 20 round mags work great! I don't much like plastic mags, and most of my SKSes have the Chinese metal mag. But I've been testing the dickens out of the Tapco mag with a couple of my guns and it really is superb.
